# Broom, mop, shovel and rake handle sizes and the 3/4-5 Acme broom / paint-pole thread

> What size thread is on a broom handle?

- Category: Hardware › Tool handles
- Kind: Standard part
- Basis: Handle makers' and retailers' spec tabs (diameters, lengths); thread from makers who measured about 20 handles

**Exact dimensions.** True size, with no printing tolerance added.

## Notes

- Threaded broom, mop, squeegee and paint-pole handles use a 3/4-5 Acme-style thread (5 threads per inch, 5.08 mm pitch); there is no formal standard, so print slightly under (crest 18.0, root 13.0) and it bites into loose handles.
- Handle diameters seen: 1 in (25.4) aluminium broom handles and angle brooms, 3/4 in (19.05) lobby brooms, 1-1/8 in (28.6) older tapered wood tool handles, 15/16 in (23.8) replacements; lengths 38, 48, 54, 60 in.
- D-grips, fiberglass handle diameters and shovel/rake/hoe handle diameters are not published by the makers: a measured Xem scan is planned (calipers on your own handle work too).
- Adapters (free STL): thread on top, socket below for your handle, a cross pin through the socket; print upright, 100 % infill on the threaded part.
