Cable tie sizes: length × width, bundle diameter and loop tensile class (18, 30, 40, 50, 120, 175 lb) — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/cable-ties-sizes-and-tensile-classes/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: Ty-Fast catalogue table (26 rows), cross-checked against Swift Supplies' quick reference and an unattributed technical-data sheet; numbers only Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - Nylon cable ties (zip ties, Ty-Raps) are sold by length and width, and by 'loop tensile' (the pull the closed loop holds): 18, 30, 40, 50, 120 and 175 lb classes in the Ty-Fast catalogue. The table is that catalogue's standard, releasable and heavy ties (continuous-loop 'mounting head', push-mount and identification ties are in the PDF but not tabulated here). The catalogue's inch lengths are nominal (within about 0.4 in of the mm figure: L-11-40 is 11.5 in / 282 mm, L-14-40 14.5 in / 358 mm); one row disagrees outright, L-28-120 as 28.0 in but 816 mm (28 in is 711 mm), shown as printed, so check the pack for that one. Widths are printed in mm rounded to whole mm; the inch widths (.100, .187, .300, .345) are the exact figures. - Two other tables give the same sizes in mm: Swift Supplies: 100 × 2.5 (max loop Ø 20.5, 8 kg), 150 × 3.6 (36, 18 kg), 200 × 4.8 (49.5, 18 kg), 300 × 4.8 (81, 18 kg), 370 × 4.8 (103.5, 18 kg), 370 × 7.6 (105.5, 56 kg), 540 × 7.6 (158, 56 kg), 750 × 8.8 (226, 79 kg). An unattributed technical-data sheet gives tensile by width: 2.5 mm 18 lb (8.1 kg), 3.6 mm 40 lb (18.2), 4.8 mm 50 lb (22.2), 7.6 mm 120 lb (54.4), 9.0 mm 175 lb (79.4), 12.7 mm 250 lb (114), and usable bundle diameter by length: 100 → 22, 140 → 33, 160 → 40, 200 → 53, 300 → 76, 370 → 102, 430 → 110, 530 → 140, 580 → 152, 710 → 190, 1020 / 1030 → 295 mm. - Sources disagree on the same nominal tie, so a size does not fix a tensile class: a 4.8 mm tie is 50 lb in the technical-data sheet and about 18 kg (40 lb) in Swift's guide; a 100 mm × 2.5 mm tie is 18 lb in both; 7.6 mm is 120 lb (54.4 kg) vs 56 kg. Bundle ranges also differ (200 mm: 2 to 51 in Ty-Fast, Ø49.5 or 53 elsewhere). Buy by the class printed on the pack; UL 62275 / IEC 62275 is the test standard for cable ties, but its limits are paywalled and are not reproduced here. - Ty-Fast lists UL 94 V-2 flammability on these nylon ties; the unattributed sheet gives nylon 66, −40 to 85 °C. Tool compatibility and mounting-head hole sizes are in the PDF but not tabulated. - Left out: files (a tie's head and strap profile are not published as numbers) and 250 lb ties beyond the table above. The existing zip-tie sizes page covers the 4.8 × 1.3 mm tie as a hobby material. series catalogue no. length, mm length, in width, mm (printed) width, in bundle Ø range, mm loop tensile, lb (kg) Miniature 18 L-4-18 102 4.0 3 .100 2–16 18 (8.2) Miniature 18 L-6-18 163 6.4 3 .100 2–38 18 (8.2) Miniature 18 L-8-18 202 8.0 3 .100 2–51 18 (8.2) Intermediate 30 L-5-30 145 5.6 3 .130 2–32 30 (13.6) Intermediate 40 L-8-40 215 8.5 3 .140 2–51 40 (18.2) Intermediate 40 L-11-40 282 11.5 4 .146 2–76 40 (18.2) Intermediate 40 L-14-40 358 14.5 4 .146 2–102 40 (18.2) Standard 50 L-5-50 140 5.5 5 .187 2–25 50 (22.7) Standard 50 L-7-50 193 7.5 5 .187 2–44 50 (22.7) Standard 50 L-11-50 282 11.1 5 .187 2–76 50 (22.7) Standard 50 L-14-50 358 14.1 5 .187 2–102 50 (22.7) Heavy 120 L-8-120 202 8.0 8 .300 5–51 120 (54.4) Heavy 120 L-11-120 282 11.1 8 .300 5–76 120 (54.4) Heavy 120 L-14-120 363 14.2 8 .300 5–102 120 (54.4) Heavy 120 L-18-120 457 18.0 8 .300 5–124 120 (54.4) Heavy 120 L-24-120 616 24.2 8 .300 5–178 120 (54.4) Heavy 120 L-28-120 816 28.0 8 .300 5–230 120 (54.4) Extra heavy 175 L-24-175 612 24.0 9 .345 5–184 175 (79.3) Extra heavy 175 L-34-175 864 34.0 9 .345 5–254 175 (79.3) Extra heavy 175 L-36-175 914 36.0 9 .345 70–273 175 (79.3) Extra heavy 175 L-41-175 1032 41.0 9 .345 5–305 175 (79.3) Extra heavy 175 L-48-175 1216 48.0 9 .345 5–375 175 (79.3) Releasable 50 L-5-50R 150 5.9 7.5 .295 3–32 50 (22.7) Releasable 50 L-8-50R 198 7.8 7.5 .295 3–51 50 (22.7) Releasable 50 L-10-50R 286 11.265 7.5 .295 3–76 50 (22.7) Files elsewhere (not hosted by Xem Studio; license as stated by the publisher): - Ty-Fast catalogue (mecampbell.com PDF): Cable ties: Miniature 18, Intermediate 30 / 40, Standard 50, Heavy 120, Extra heavy 175 lb loop tensile; length, width, bundle range; releasable, mounting-head, push-mount — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://www.mecampbell.com/media/pdf/Ty-Fast.pdf - Swift Supplies (quick reference guide): Nylon cable ties: length x width, max loop diameter, min loop tensile (8 / 18 / 56 / 79 kg) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://www.swiftsupplies.com.au/assets/files/QRG/Nylon%20Cable%20Ties%20Quick%20Reference%20Guide.pdf - cable tie technical data (Shopify PDF): Tensile strength by tie width (2.5 to 12.7 mm) and usable bundle diameter by length (100 to 1030 mm) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1359/2999/files/cable-tie-technical-data.pdf No true-size file yet: the published figures do not fix the whole shape; a measured scan is planned.
