> What thread is a camera tripod screw?

- Category: Everyday mounts › Adapter blocks
- Kind: Hardware
- Basis: DIN 4503-1 / ISO 1222 tripod threads as given by Threading Tools Guide: 1/4-20 UNC (major Ø6.35, core hole Ø5.35) and 3/8-16 UNC (major Ø9.52, core hole Ø8.25)

**Exact dimensions.** Every file is drawn at true size with no printing tolerance. The holes and pins that meet another part are listed below under Mating features, with the fit each joint needs; open those by your printer's or process's clearance before making the part.

## Notes

- Cameras, phone clamps, lights and small tripod heads take a 1/4-20 UNC screw; larger heads and most tripod-to-head joints use 3/8-16 UNC. Both are 60° Unified threads.
- Files: a round boss for each with a blind hole at the published core-hole diameter, to cut the internal thread into or to fit a threaded insert of your choice. The boss Ø, height and hole depth are my design.
- The screw side is in the catalog: 1/4-20 socket head cap screws in imperial-machine-screws.
- Arca-Swiss style dovetails are not drawn: there is no published standard; makers' plates measure 38.0 to 38.75 mm across.
