# 380 / 385 size brushed DC motor: Ø27.7 × 37.8 mm, 2 × M2.6 on 16

> What are the dimensions of a 380 size DC motor?

- Category: Electronics › Motors
- Kind: Hardware
- Basis: Mabuchi RS-380PH and RS-385SH dimension drawings (identical outside sizes); outside size also on the MonotaRO RS-380PH listing, hole spacing on the MakerBazar RS-385 listing. Envelope only: the outside of the motor at its published sizes. The windings, magnets, brushes and bearings inside are not drawn.

**Exact dimensions.** Every file is drawn at true size with no printing tolerance. The holes and pins that meet another part are listed below under Mating features, with the fit each joint needs; open those by your printer's or process's clearance before making the part.

## Notes

- Envelope only: the outside of the motor at its published sizes. The windings, magnets, brushes and bearings inside are not drawn.
- The 380 and 385 share one envelope: a Ø27.7 × 37.8 can with a Ø10.0 × 2.6 boss on each end.
- The Ø2.3 shaft runs 16.4 mm out from the front face. The drawing's 57.0 overall is 0.2 longer than the drawn parts.
- Two M2.6 × 0.45 tapped holes on 16.0 mm centres, drawn at the major diameter 3.0 deep (the usable screw length on the drawing).
- Vent holes, terminal tabs and the wire exit are not drawn. The drawing's Ø29.2 maximum is over the end-cap terminals.
- In DIY Stirling builds, brushed DC motors of this kind are turned by the engine and used as a generator (an LED, a resistor or a meter across the leads) or as a load on the flywheel shaft.

## Questions

**What are 380 motor dimensions?**

Ø27.7 × 37.8 mm can, Ø2.3 shaft 16.4 mm from the face, Ø10.0 × 2.6 bosses, two M2.6 holes 16.0 apart.

**What is the 385 motor mounting hole spacing?**

16.0 mm, two M2.6 × 0.45 tapped holes; screws no deeper than 3.0 mm into the motor. Same as the 380.

**380 vs 385?**

The same outside: can, face, holes and shaft. They differ inside (windings, brushes).
