## Notes

- Double-braid rope has a braided core inside a braided cover; it is sold by nominal diameter in inches (1/4 to 2-5/8 in in Yale's data sheet). Three polyester double-braid sources and one nylon double-braid source are shown side by side; diameters are nominal (the actual diameter of a braided rope varies with load and make, and none of the sheets gives a diameter tolerance).
- Weights per 100 ft agree where two sources share a size: 9/16 (10.0), 5/8 (13.0) and 1-1/4 (54.0) are identical in Yale and CWC; 3/8 (5.0 vs 4.5), 1/2 (7.9 vs 8.1), 3/4 (16.4 vs 18.0), 1 (36.6 vs 32.0) and 1-1/2 (69.2 vs 75.0) differ, so rope of the same nominal size is not the same rope. Minimum break strengths differ much more (1/2 in polyester: Yale 9,000 lbf spliced, CWC 9,500, Oceanside 10,400; 3/4 in: 17,010 / 26,000 / 18,000). Yale's figure is a minimum spliced break; the other sheets print a minimum break without saying spliced or not. These are makers' numbers for specific products, not working loads, and no working-load limit is tabulated.
- Oceanside prints weight per coil (coil lengths differ per size), circumference is printed by none of the three, so weights per coil and circumference are left out. Oceanside's three-strand nylon table (1/4 to 1-1/2 in, 1,540 to 59,620 lbf) is not braided and is not tabulated.
- Circumference ('rope size' in inches around) is the older way to size rope: circumference = π × diameter. Not on any sheet read here, so not tabulated.
- Cord, paracord and bungee: paracord-types-mil-c-5040, bungee-shock-cord-diameters-and-hooks. Steel wire rope: wire-rope-sizes-6x19-7x19-1x19-weights.
- No STEP/STL: a rope is a plain cylinder of no fixed length. McMaster-Carr sells nylon and polyester rope; its category is linked.
