Double-braid rope diameters (polyester, nylon): 1/4 to 2-5/8 in with weight per 100 ft and minimum break strength — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/double-braid-rope-polyester-nylon-diameters/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: Yale Cordage Portland Braid data sheet, CWC composite double braid cut sheet and Oceanside nylon / polyester double braid tables; numbers only Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - Double-braid rope has a braided core inside a braided cover; it is sold by nominal diameter in inches (1/4 to 2-5/8 in in Yale's data sheet). Three polyester double-braid sources and one nylon double-braid source are shown side by side; diameters are nominal (the actual diameter of a braided rope varies with load and make, and none of the sheets gives a diameter tolerance). - Weights per 100 ft agree where two sources share a size: 9/16 (10.0), 5/8 (13.0) and 1-1/4 (54.0) are identical in Yale and CWC; 3/8 (5.0 vs 4.5), 1/2 (7.9 vs 8.1), 3/4 (16.4 vs 18.0), 1 (36.6 vs 32.0) and 1-1/2 (69.2 vs 75.0) differ, so rope of the same nominal size is not the same rope. Minimum break strengths differ much more (1/2 in polyester: Yale 9,000 lbf spliced, CWC 9,500, Oceanside 10,400; 3/4 in: 17,010 / 26,000 / 18,000). Yale's figure is a minimum spliced break; the other sheets print a minimum break without saying spliced or not. These are makers' numbers for specific products, not working loads, and no working-load limit is tabulated. - Oceanside prints weight per coil (coil lengths differ per size), circumference is printed by none of the three, so weights per coil and circumference are left out. Oceanside's three-strand nylon table (1/4 to 1-1/2 in, 1,540 to 59,620 lbf) is not braided and is not tabulated. - Circumference ('rope size' in inches around) is the older way to size rope: circumference = π × diameter. Not on any sheet read here, so not tabulated. - Cord, paracord and bungee: paracord-types-mil-c-5040, bungee-shock-cord-diameters-and-hooks. Steel wire rope: wire-rope-sizes-6x19-7x19-1x19-weights. - No STEP/STL: a rope is a plain cylinder of no fixed length. McMaster-Carr sells nylon and polyester rope; its category is linked. diameter (in) decimal (in) mm Yale Portland Braid polyester: lb/100 ft Yale: min spliced break (lbf) CWC polyester: lb/100 ft CWC: min break (lbf) Oceanside polyester DB: min break (lbf) Oceanside nylon DB: min break (lbf) 1/4 in 0.2500 6.35 2.2 2,196 — — — — 5/16 in 0.3125 7.94 3.5 3,366 — — — — 3/8 in 0.3750 9.52 5 4,491 4.5 5,000 4,900 5,000 7/16 in 0.4375 11.11 6.3 6,543 6.1 7,500 — — 1/2 in 0.5000 12.70 7.9 9,000 8.1 9,500 10,400 8,000 9/16 in 0.5625 14.29 10 11,205 10 16,150 — — 5/8 in 0.6250 15.88 13 13,662 13 18,000 16,100 14,800 3/4 in 0.7500 19.05 16.4 17,010 18 26,000 18,000 19,000 7/8 in 0.8750 22.22 27.1 27,945 25 32,000 — — 1 in 1.0000 25.40 36.6 36,288 32 42,000 32,000 33,500 1-1/8 in 1.1250 28.57 43.5 47,124 46 47,900 — — 1-1/4 in 1.2500 31.75 54 49,140 54 56,200 49,000 52,000 1-1/2 in 1.5000 38.10 69.2 60,903 75 73,380 — 74,000 1-3/4 in 1.7500 44.45 103 86,400 — — — — 2 in 2.0000 50.80 132 112,716 — — — 131,000 2-1/4 in 2.2500 57.15 155 135,000 — — — — 2-1/2 in 2.5000 63.50 172.6 151,380 — — — — 2-5/8 in 2.6250 66.67 220 189,000 — — — — Files elsewhere (not hosted by Xem Studio; license as stated by the publisher): - Yale Cordage: Portland Braid (double-braided polyester): diameter, weight per 100 ft, minimum spliced break strength, 1/4 to 2-5/8 in — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://yalecordage.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Yale-Cordage-Data-Sheet-Portland-Braid.pdf - Utility Pipe Supply (polyester double braid pulling rope cut sheet): Composite double braid pulling rope: diameter 3/8 to 1-1/2 in, minimum break strength, weight per 100 ft — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://utilitypipesupply.com/cdn/shop/files/Composite-Double-Braid-Pulling-Rope-Cut-Sheet_8.5x11_4_7_23.pdf - Oceanside (catalogue 2024, section 10): Nylon double braid 2-1 and polyester double braided 2-1, Ocean Steel Line: diameter, weight per coil, minimum break; nylon 3-strand — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0445/7185/2960/files/Pages_from_Oceanside-Product-Catalogue-2024-SECTION-10.pdf - McMaster-Carr: Nylon rope (free STEP/IGES per part, for your own design use; no redistribution) — STEP, IGES, PDF — McMaster-Carr site terms: personal design use, no redistribution [verify license at link] — https://www.mcmaster.com/products/nylon-rope No true-size file yet: the published figures do not fix the whole shape; a measured scan is planned.
