## Notes

- Elevons combine elevator and aileron: both move together for pitch and opposite for roll, which is how tailless wings and deltas are controlled.
- Concorde used only six elevons, replacing elevators and ailerons, with no flaps or slats, where subsonic wings may have more than 50 movable devices (Heritage Concorde).
- McCombs notes free-flight scale models can trim glide turns with elevons (Model Aviation).
- Used on: Concorde.
- The file is a reference example built by Xem Studio from the numbers above. Sizes the sources do not fix are illustrative; scale the example to your own vehicle.

## Sizes

| parameter | value or range | source |
|---|---|---|
| Concorde | 6 elevons; no flaps or slats | Heritage Concorde |
| Reference build | chord 200, 20% elevon, 15 deg | illustrative |

## Questions

**Why do flying wings use elevons?**

With no tail, the wing's trailing-edge surfaces must do both pitch and roll (Heritage Concorde).
