Forged socket-weld fittings (ASME B16.11), Class 3000 and 6000: elbows, tees, couplings — socket bore, depth, centre-to-bottom — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/forged-socket-weld-fittings-b16-11/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: Wermac's ASME B16.11 socket-weld tables (mm: elbow, tee, coupling pages), cross-checked against the maker's inch catalog (Smith-Cooper 52-series); numbers and Xem-drawn envelopes Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - B16.11 socket-weld fittings take plain pipe in a socket: B is the socket bore (inside diameter of the socket), J the socket depth, D the bore of the fitting, C the socket wall, G the body wall and A the distance from the centre of the fitting to the bottom of the socket (centre-to-end = A + J). B, D and C are printed as two values, the first / second as headed in the table here (max / min as Wermac prints them). Wermac prints the letters in a different order on its coupling page; the tables here follow the elbow and tee pages, and the values are identical in all three. - Cross-check: for every elbow, tee and coupling size A + J (converted to inches) lands within 0.04 in of the maker's overall centre-to-end A as Smith-Cooper prints it (the catalog text does not define its letters). Its elbow column B (read as the body width) compares with the drawn B(min) + 2 × C(min) as -0.8 to -0.2 mm for Class 3000 and -3.0 to -1.7 mm for Class 6000 (drawn minus printed). The coupling gap E (Wermac's laying-length column 'E', 9.5 / 13 / 19 mm) is the distance between the two socket bottoms: 2J + E is within 1 mm of Smith-Cooper's coupling length for all nine sizes (NPS 1/2: 29.5 mm vs 1.14 in = 29.0; NPS 4: 57 mm vs 2.25 in = 57.2). The 'check' columns below show the inch comparisons. - Dropped as a misprint: Wermac prints D min = 46.4 for Class 3000 NPS 3 (next to D max 79.5); every other row has D min about 1.5–3 mm under D max, so the value is not used and no NPS 3 file is drawn. Tolerance of A as printed: ±1.5 mm (NPS 1/2 and 3/4), ±2 mm (NPS 1 to 2), ±2.5 mm (NPS 2-1/2 to 4). - Files (Xem-drawn envelopes): a sphere and cylinders of outside diameter B(min) + 2 × C(min) meeting at the fitting centre, out to A + J on each arm; socket bore B(min) for the last J; bore D(min) from the socket bottom to the centre. The second printed value of B, C and D is used (the guaranteed minimum body; NPS 1/2 Class 3000: Ø29.9 drawn, the maker prints 1.20 in = 30.5 mm; the Class 6000 body is drawn smaller than the maker's by the range in the cross-check above). The true outside contour of a forged elbow or tee is not published as numbers, so the body is a cylinder-and-sphere envelope; the socket, the depth, the bore and the centre-to-bottom are the published values. Couplings: tube of that OD, length 2J + E. - Half couplings, caps and reducing inserts are not tabulated here: the sources read give no defined centre dimension for them (Smith-Cooper A / B for socket-weld caps are printed without definitions). - Socket bore vs pipe OD: Schedule 40 pipe OD is 21.34 / 26.67 / 33.40 / 42.16 / 48.26 / 60.33 mm at NPS 1/2 to 2, against socket bores of 21.70–21.95 / 27.05–27.30 / 33.80–34.05 / 42.55–42.80 / 48.65–48.90 / 61.10–61.35, i.e. 0.36–1.0 mm of clearance. class NPS socket bore B max / min socket depth J bore D max / min socket wall C max / min body wall G A 90° (centre to socket bottom) A 45° check: (A90+J) in vs maker A in check: (A45+J) in vs maker A in coupling gap E check: coupling length 2J+E vs maker 3000 1/2 21.95 / 21.70 10 16.6 / 15 4.65 / 4.10 3.75 15.5 11.5 1.00 vs 1.00 0.85 vs 0.82 9.5 29.5 (1.16 in) vs 1.14 in 3000 3/4 27.30 / 27.05 13 21.7 / 20.2 4.90 / 4.25 3.9 19.5 12.5 1.28 vs 1.25 1.00 vs 1.00 9.5 35.5 (1.40 in) vs 1.38 in 3000 1 34.05 / 33.80 13 27.4 / 25.9 5.70 / 5.00 4.55 22 14 1.38 vs 1.38 1.06 vs 1.06 13 39 (1.54 in) vs 1.50 in 3000 1-1/4 42.80 / 42.55 13 35.8 / 34.3 6.05 / 5.30 4.85 27 17 1.57 vs 1.56 1.18 vs 1.19 13 39 (1.54 in) vs 1.50 in 3000 1-1/2 48.90 / 48.65 13 41.7 / 40.1 6.35 / 5.55 5.1 32 21 1.77 vs 1.75 1.34 vs 1.31 13 39 (1.54 in) vs 1.50 in 3000 2 61.35 / 61.10 16 53.5 / 51.7 6.95 / 6.05 5.55 38 25 2.13 vs 2.12 1.61 vs 1.62 19 51 (2.01 in) vs 2.00 in 3000 2-1/2 74.20 / 73.80 16 64.2 / 61.2 8.75 / 7.65 7.0 41.5 29 2.26 vs 2.24 1.77 vs 1.74 19 51 (2.01 in) vs 2.00 in 3000 3 90.15 / 89.80 16 79.5 / n/a (misprint) 9.50 / 8.30 7.6 57.5 31.5 2.89 vs 2.87 1.87 vs 1.87 19 51 (2.01 in) vs 2.00 in 3000 4 115.80 / 115.45 19 103.8 / 100.7 10.70 / 9.35 8.55 66.5 41.5 3.37 vs 3.37 2.38 vs 2.37 19 57 (2.24 in) vs 2.25 in 6000 1/2 21.95 / 21.70 10 12.5 / 11 5.95 / 5.20 4.8 19.5 12.5 1.16 vs 1.13 0.89 vs 0.88 9.5 — 6000 3/4 27.30 / 27.05 13 16.3 / 14.8 6.95 / 6.05 5.55 22.5 14.5 1.40 vs 1.38 1.08 vs 1.06 9.5 — 6000 1 34.05 / 33.80 13 21.5 / 19.9 7.90 / 6.95 6.35 27 17 1.57 vs 1.56 1.18 vs 1.19 13 — 6000 1-1/4 42.80 / 42.55 13 30.2 / 28.7 7.90 / 6.95 6.35 32 21 1.77 vs 1.75 1.34 vs 1.31 13 — 6000 1-1/2 48.90 / 48.65 13 34.7 / 33.2 8.90 / 7.80 7.15 38 25 2.01 vs 2.00 1.50 vs 1.50 13 — 6000 2 61.35 / 61.10 16 43.6 / 42.1 10.90 / 9.50 8.75 41 29 2.24 vs 2.24 1.77 vs 1.74 19 — Files elsewhere (not hosted by Xem Studio; license as stated by the publisher): - Wermac: ASME B16.11 socket-weld elbows 90 / 45 deg, Class 3000 and 6000 (mm) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://wermac.org/fittings/dim_sw_elbows.html - Wermac: ASME B16.11 socket-weld tees and crosses, Class 3000 and 6000 (mm) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://wermac.org/fittings/dim_sw_tee_cross.html - Wermac: ASME B16.11 socket-weld couplings, Class 3000 and 6000 (mm) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://wermac.org/fittings/dim_sw_coupling.html - Smith-Cooper (maker), via buyfittingsonline.com: Forged carbon steel fittings, Class 3000 / 6000, threaded (42-series) and socket weld (52-series): elbows, tees, couplings, caps; dimensions A and B in inches (letters not defined in the text read) — web — Maker catalog; numbers only — https://www.buyfittingsonline.com/content/pipe-fittings-forged-carbon-steel-specifications-sizing-3000-6000-lb.pdf - Bonney Forge (maker): Forged steel fittings CAD (socket weld 3000 and others; 3D models per part) — CAD — Maker's site terms: check before use [verify license at link] — https://cad.bonneyforge.com/printitem/forged-steel-fittings-unions/category-1108/3000-socket-weld-1 - Bonney Forge (maker): Forged steel fittings catalog F9-2012 (socket weld and threaded elbows, tees, couplings, caps; ASME B16.11); read for its scope only, its tables were not used (the extract disagreed with the other two sources) — web — Maker catalog — https://bonneyforge.com/assets/files/FSFU.pdf - ANSI Webstore (standard body storefront): ASME B16.11-2016 Forged Fittings, Socket-Welding and Threaded (the standard itself is paywalled; listing only) — web — Storefront page — https://webstore.ansi.org/standards/asme/asmeb16112016 Free files (CC BY 4.0, Xem Studio; STEP + STL, 14 parts): https://xemstudio.com/files/hardware/forged-socket-weld-fittings-b16-11/index.json API: https://xemstudio.com/api/geometry?object=forged-socket-weld-fittings-b16-11
