Lug nuts and wheel bolts: thread sizes (M12x1.5, M12x1.25, M14x1.5, 1/2-20, 9/16-18), seat types (60° cone, ball R12 to R14, flat with washer) and hex sizes (17, 19, 21 mm, 13/16, 3/4 in) — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/lug-nuts-and-wheel-bolts/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: Wikipedia 'Lug nut' (mirror), motorverso, McGard catalogue, Dorman and McGard product listings, astina.dk, 034Motorsport, PeachParts forum, wheel-sizes.com and rerev.com vehicle pages; numbers only Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - A lug nut or wheel bolt is defined by four things: thread, seat, hex and length. The thread has to match the stud or hub, the seat has to match the wheel, the hex has to match your socket; length depends on wheel thickness and thread engagement. The nut or bolt must also match the pattern on the wheel (see wheel-bolt-patterns-pcd-lug-patterns). - Where the sources disagree: the inch 9/16 thread is 9/16-18 in McGard's catalogue, motorverso and trailer hub listings, and 9/16-20 in Wikipedia. Wikipedia also calls 13/16 in a less common hex, while motorverso and McGard treat it as the standard inch match to 21 mm. 13/16 in is 20.64 mm, so a 21 mm socket fits but is not the same size; 3/4 in is 19.05 mm against 19 mm. - Thread major diameters are the nominal designation (M12 = 12.0 mm; 1/2 in = 12.7 mm); pitches are the second number. No tolerance classes or thread forms were read, and wheel-seat angle tolerances are not published in the sources; use the wheel maker's data. - Lug nut lengths are product-specific: Dorman 611-183 (M12-1.50, 19 mm hex) is 0.831 in (21.1 mm) overall and McGard 69432 (M14x1.5, 13/16 hex) is 1.945 in (49.4 mm); the cone, bulge and hub-cap profiles are not given as numbers, so no nut or bolt models are published. - Torque: the sources read do not give general values (Wikipedia: vehicle and wheel maker values apply; wheel-sizes.com prints per-vehicle torque on some pages, 131 Nm for the Toyota Tundra and 133 Nm for the Nissan Titan, which are not repeated as rules). Use the vehicle's manual. - Files: none; this page is numbers only. McGard's catalogue is the maker's listing used for the thread and hex sizes; the maker's own CAD was not found. kind item dimension where the sources show it sources thread M12 x 1.5 major Ø12, pitch 1.5 mm most common M12 pitch (Wikipedia); Dorman 611-183 (19 mm hex, 60° cone, 0.831 in long); Honda Civic, Ford Focus RS, BMW 330 2001-06 (wheel-sizes.com); Acura, BMW, Corvette 1984+ (motorverso) Wikipedia; Dorman; wheel-sizes.com; motorverso; McGard thread M12 x 1.25 major Ø12, pitch 1.25 mm Nissan Titan (wheel-sizes.com); Nissan, some Subaru (rerev.com) Wikipedia; McGard; wheel-sizes.com; rerev.com thread M12 x 1.75 major Ø12, pitch 1.75 mm listed by Wikipedia and in McGard's catalogue; no vehicle named in the pages read Wikipedia; McGard thread M14 x 1.5 major Ø14, pitch 1.5 mm most common M14 pitch (Wikipedia); Chevrolet Tahoe, Audi allroad (lug bolts), Ford F-150 (wheel-sizes.com, rerev.com); Audi 1988+, Acura MDX 2007+, Chrysler 300 2005+ (motorverso); McGard 69432 (13/16 hex, bulge cone, 1.945 in) Wikipedia; McGard; wheel-sizes.com; rerev.com; motorverso thread M14 x 1.25 major Ø14, pitch 1.25 mm BMW 330 2017 onward (wheel-sizes.com); BMW 7 Series 2009+ (motorverso) Wikipedia; wheel-sizes.com; motorverso thread M14 x 2.0 major Ø14, pitch 2.0 mm listed by Wikipedia and in McGard's catalogue; no vehicle named in the pages read Wikipedia; McGard thread M16 x 1.5 major Ø16, pitch 1.5 mm listed by Wikipedia only Wikipedia thread M10 x 1.25 major Ø10, pitch 1.25 mm listed by Wikipedia only Wikipedia thread 7/16-20 UNF major Ø11.11 mm (7/16 in), 20 TPI older American cars (Wikipedia); Corvette 1953-1983 (motorverso); in McGard's catalogue Wikipedia; motorverso; McGard thread 1/2-20 UNF major Ø12.7 mm (1/2 in), 20 TPI older American cars (Wikipedia); in McGard's catalogue; Dexter 5 on 4.5 and 5 on 4.75 trailer hubs (nuts / studs) Wikipedia; McGard; needatrailerpart.com thread 9/16-18 UNF major Ø14.29 mm (9/16 in), 18 TPI McGard's catalogue and motorverso (Dodge Dakota 2005+); 8 on 6.5 trailer hubs with 9/16 studs.
