## Notes

- IEC TR 60083 'Plugs and socket-outlets for domestic and similar general use standardized in member countries of IEC' is the technical report that lists the national plug standards; the letters A to N (and O for Thailand) are the IEC World Plugs type names. The report is a catalogue of standards, not a drawing: every dimension here comes from the national standard's published numbers as repeated by Wikipedia, dimensions.com and the Museum of Plugs and Sockets. Catalogue entries seen for the report are the 1975, 1997, 2004, 2006 and 2015 editions; the IEC pages themselves (iec.ch/world-plugs) could not be fetched here and are linked only.
- Where the sources agree: Schuko, CEE 7/5 and 7/6 and Europlug-family pins are Ø4.8 x 19 (Ø4.0 for Europlug) on 19 mm centres; type N IEC 60906-1 is Ø4.5 on 19 mm with a 3 mm earth offset; type I blades 6.3 x 1.6 at 13.7 mm; type L 10 A Ø4 / 19 mm and 16 A Ø5 / 26 mm; BS 1363 line and neutral 6.4 x 4.0 and 17.7 mm long on 22.2 mm centres; BS 546 5 A at 19.1 mm centres and Ø5.1 / Ø7.1.
- Where they disagree: BS 1363 earth pin 8.0 x 4.0 and 22.3 long (Wikipedia) against 7.93 x 4 and 22.73 (dimensions.com); BS 546 15 A line pin 7.1 (Wikipedia) against 6.9 (Museum) and earth pin 8.7 against 8.4; BS 546 5 A earth offset 22.2 against 20.4; Israeli type H pin Ø4.5 x 19 (dimensions.com) against Ø4.1 x 17.8 to 18.3 (Museum); Swiss type J width 4 mm against 5 mm and sleeve 8 against 10 mm; Europlug spacing 17.8 to 18.9 depending on the point along the pin. Both numbers are shown; nothing is averaged.
- Shape matters, not just diameter: type G pins are rectangular, type I blades are angled, type D / M earth pins are larger than the line pins, type K's earth pin is D-shaped, and types E / F earth on clips or a socket pin. Sleeves (10 mm on type C and J per dimensions.com; 8 +/-0.25 on type J per Wikipedia) are part of the plug body: lengths are to the pin tip.
- Ratings and voltages are the worldstandards.eu table for type (A 15 A 100-127 V; B 15 A; C 2.5 / 10 / 16 A; D 6 A in IS / SANS (5 A in BS 546); E 16 A; F 16 A; G 13 A 220-250 V; H 16 A; I 10 A; J 10 A; K 16 A in that table against 13 A in Wikipedia; L 10 / 16 A; M 16 A; N 10 / 16 / 20 A 100-240 V), shown where it differs from the standard's own page.
- Files: none (numbers only). Pin geometry on types A, B, G, I, K and M has width, thickness, angle and offset values that come from different sources, so no hole templates or plug models are published. McMaster-Carr was not used.
- US plugs in full (NEMA 1-15, 5-15, 5-20, 6-15, 14-50, locking) are on nema-plug-receptacle-configurations; USB-C, HDMI and cord diameters are on cable-and-plug-sizes.

## Questions

**What are the dimensions of a Type C Europlug?**

Two round Ø4.0 mm pins, 19 mm long, about 18.9 mm apart at the base converging to 17.8 mm at the tip, 2.5 A (Museum of Plugs and Sockets; Wikipedia).

**What are the pin dimensions of a Schuko (Type F) plug?**

Two round Ø4.8 mm pins, 19 mm long, 19 mm centres, with side earth clips (Wikipedia Schuko; dimensions.com).

**What are the BS 1363 (Type G) pin sizes?**

Line and neutral 6.4 x 4.0 mm and 17.7 mm long on 22.2 mm centres; earth pin 8.0 x 4.0 (Wikipedia) or 7.93 x 4 (dimensions.com) and about 22.3 mm long.

**Is Type N the same as Type J?**

No: Type N (IEC 60906-1 / NBR 14136) has Ø4.5 pins at 19 mm with a 3 mm earth offset; Type J (Swiss SEV 1011) has Ø4.0 pins at 19 mm with a 5 mm offset.

**Are the IEC plug types A to N in the standard?**

They are the IEC World Plugs letter system; IEC TR 60083 lists the national plug and socket standards that those letters name.
