# Neodymium disc magnets, common sizes

> What pocket size do 6×3 and 10×3 magnets need in a 3D print?

- Category: Hardware › Magnets & seals
- Kind: Hardware
- Basis: standard disc sizes; nominal, N35–N52 share dimensions

## Notes

- Common sizes: Ø6 × 3, Ø8 × 3, Ø10 × 3, Ø12 × 3, Ø5 × 2, Ø3 × 1 mm (tolerance about ±0.1 mm).
- Press-fit pocket: diameter + 0.1–0.2 mm, depth = thickness; glue-in: diameter + 0.4 mm. A 0.5 mm floor between magnet and the mating part keeps pull strong and the surface smooth.
- Polarity: mark north on the pair before gluing.

## Questions

**What hole size for a 6x3 mm magnet in a 3D print?**

Press fit: 6.15 mm diameter, 3 mm deep. Glue-in: 6.4 mm. Leave a 0.5 mm floor between the magnet and the mating face.

**What size pocket for an 8x3 and 10x3 neodymium magnet?**

8×3: 8.15 mm press / 8.4 mm glue. 10×3: 10.15 mm press / 10.4 mm glue. Tolerance on the magnets is about ±0.1 mm.

**How strong is a 6x3 mm N52 magnet?**

Roughly 1 kg pull against mild steel in direct contact; through a 0.5 mm printed floor expect about half that. Pair magnets north-to-south and mark polarity before gluing.
