# Nyloc lock nuts, M2.5–M8 (DIN 985)

> How thick is an M3 nyloc nut?

- Category: Hardware › Fasteners
- Kind: Hardware
- Basis: DIN 985 / ISO 10511 (thin type is lower; values are the common DIN 985)
- Page: https://xemstudio.com/objects/nyloc-nuts-metric/ · JSON: https://xemstudio.com/api/geometry?object=nyloc-nuts-metric · Plain text: https://xemstudio.com/objects/nyloc-nuts-metric/sheet.txt

## Notes

- Same across-flats as a plain nut, taller because of the nylon collar: M3 is 4.0 mm vs 2.4 mm plain. Size a nut pocket to the full height.
- Not reusable more than a few times; don't rely on them on a printed part that will be opened often.

## Sizes

## Questions

**How tall is an M3 nyloc nut?**

4.0 mm (5.5 mm across flats); an M4 is 5.0 mm (7 AF), M5 5.0 mm (8 AF), M6 6.0 mm (10 AF), M8 8.0 mm (13 AF).

**Can I print a pocket for a nyloc nut?**

Yes: AF + 0.3 mm, depth = nut height + 0.3 mm. The nylon collar must face away from the screw entry.
