## Notes

- An ogee wing curves its leading edge from very high sweep at the root to lower sweep outboard. NASA's ogee test aircraft went from 52.5 deg to 77 deg root sweep and 55.8 deg minimum, cutting AR from 2.02 to 1.70 while adding area (NASA Ames).
- Its steady leading-edge vortices showed no detachment to 25 deg AoA and lowered approach speed by 10-15 kt, but pitch stability was neutral to slightly unstable on approach (NASA Ames). Concorde's slender ogival delta had no flaps or slats, only six elevons, and relies on vortex lift to fly slowly (Heritage Concorde).
- ONERA estimated about 30% lift increase near the ground for this planform (NASA Ames, ONERA comments).
- Used on: Concorde, Douglas F5D-1 (NASA ogee test).
- The file is a reference example built by Xem Studio from the numbers above. Sizes the sources do not fix are illustrative; scale the example to your own vehicle.

## Sizes

| parameter | value or range | source |
|---|---|---|
| Ogee LE sweep root / minimum | 77 deg / 55.8 deg | NASA Ames |
| AR basic -> ogee | 2.02 -> 1.70 | NASA Ames |
| Wing area basic -> ogee | 557 -> 661 ft^2 (span 33.5 ft) | NASA Ames |
| Vortex steady to | 25 deg AoA, 8 deg sideslip | NASA Ames |
| Ground-effect lift increase (ONERA estimate) | about 30% | NASA Ames (ONERA) |
| Concorde control surfaces | 6 elevons, no flaps or slats | Heritage Concorde |
| Reference build | span 335, root 600, LE sweep 77 deg root | computed (1:30 of 33.5 ft span) |

## Questions

**Why does Concorde need no flaps?**

Its slender ogival delta makes vortex lift at high AoA (Heritage Concorde).
