## Notes

- P-clips (P-clamps, Adel clips, rubber-lined cable clamps) hold a cable, hose or pipe to a surface with one screw through the tail; the rubber liner grips and protects. The HCL Fasteners table (it labels both series DIN 3016) is the only one read with labelled columns A to F1 for every size. A is the largest cable diameter, B the offset distance (as HCL labels it), C the hole, D the band width, E the rubber width, F the band thickness and F1 the clamping thickness.
- The HCL sheet prints C, D, E, F and F1 once per series (merged cells), so those are carried down the whole series here: PK-15: hole 6.4, band 15, rubber 18; PK-20: hole 8.4, band 20, rubber 24, thickness 1.0 and F1 2.5. For PK-15 the sheet prints 0.6 / 1.6 for the first row and 0.8 / 1.8 from PK-15-15 on; the table assumes the change applies from size 15, which is how the text reads but is not drawn. Quantities and the 2.5 % tolerance note are in the PDF. Offset B steps are as printed, including the odd PK-20-45 (37.0) and PK-20-50 (37.5).
- Other makers' ranges: Jubilee (band 12.7 mm, fastening M4/5 in zinc-plated mild steel or M6 in 304 stainless) lists bundle diameters as min to max: 4.5 to 6, 5.5 to 8, 7.5 to 10, 8.5 to 11, 9.5 to 12, 11.5 to 14, 12.5 to 15, 13.5 to 16, 14.5 to 17, 15.5 to 18, 16.5 to 19, 17.5 to 20, 18.5 to 21, 19.5 to 22, 20.5 to 23, 21.5 to 24, 24.5 to 27, 26.5 to 29, 27.5 to 30, 28.5 to 31, 29.5 to 32, 34.5 to 37, 39.5 to 42, 43.5 to 46 mm. Express Electrical's stainless EPC clips (sizes 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 16, 21, 25, 29, 35, 40 mm) have a 6.6 mm hole, 12 mm band and 15 mm total width (the table's column labels are positional). Accu Components HHCP-20-12-A4: diameter 20, band width 12, fastening 6 mm, range 5 to 52 mm. So a 12 to 12.7 mm band with a 6.4 to 6.6 mm hole is the common small size, a 15 mm band with 6.4 mm hole the PK-15, a 20 mm band with 8.4 mm the PK-20.
- Band widths and holes therefore depend on the series, not only on the cable size; check the series before drilling. Left out: files (the tail length and strap form are not published as numbers) and non-DIN clamp types (twin-wire clips, saddle clamps).

## Questions

**What hole does a P-clip have?**

In the DIN 3016 PK-15 series it is 6.4 mm (15 mm band), in PK-20 it is 8.4 mm (20 mm band); other makers' 12 mm clips use 6.6 mm.

**How wide is the band?**

15 mm for PK-15, 20 mm for PK-20 (HCL), 12 to 12.7 mm for the small stainless clips from Jubilee and Express Electrical.

**How is the clip size named?**

By the largest cable diameter it takes (HCL's A): PK-15-10 takes up to Ø10 mm; Jubilee's list gives a min to max range instead.

**How thick is the band?**

0.6 to 0.8 mm for PK-15 and 1.0 mm for PK-20 as read from the HCL sheet (see the note on the merged cells).
