PVC rigid conduit Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 (NEMA TC 2 / UL 651): trade size, OD, minimum wall, minimum average ID, 1/2 to 8 in + 100 mm sections — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/pvc-rigid-conduit-sch-40-80-nema-tc-2/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: Wheatland Tube's PVC conduit spec sheet (Sch 40 and 80, 1/2 to 4 in) and Atkore's Sch 40 spec (1/2 to 8 in) agree on OD, minimum wall and minimum average ID; walls for 6 and 8 in Sch 80 are from a PVC conduit manufacturer's page Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Overall (mm): length 168.27, width 168.27, height 100.0 - PVC rigid conduit is made to the same trade sizes and outside diameters as PVC and steel pipe, so a Schedule 40 or 80 PVC conduit has the OD of the matching NPS pipe (1/2 in 0.840, 3/4 in 1.050, 1 in 1.315, 1-1/4 in 1.660, 1-1/2 in 1.900, 2 in 2.375, 2-1/2 in 2.875, 3 in 3.500, 3-1/2 in 4.000, 4 in 4.500, 5 in 5.563, 6 in 6.625, 8 in 8.625). Wheatland's sheet cites UL 651 and lists NEMA TC 2 and ASTM 1784 among its standards; Atkore's names UL 651, which does not include the 8 in size (as Atkore says). The standards themselves were not read; the numbers are the two makers' sheets. - Walls are minimum walls and the IDs are minimum average IDs, not nominal: ID = OD − 2 × minimum wall (shown separately, the last numeric column) is larger than the printed minimum average ID (for example 1/2 in Sch 40: 0.622 against 0.578 in), because the OD and wall tolerances are applied. Wheatland and Atkore print identical Schedule 40 numbers for 1/2 to 4 in; Atkore adds 5 in (OD 5.563, wall 0.258, ID 4.975), 6 in (6.625, 0.280, 5.986) and 8 in (8.625, 0.322, 7.853). - Schedule 80 (heavier wall, same OD): Wheatland prints 1/2 to 4 in; its minimum average ID for 3-1/2 in (3.820) is larger than the one for 4 in (3.737) and than OD − 2 × wall (3.364), so it is almost certainly a typo and is left blank here. 6 and 8 in Sch 80 walls (0.432, 0.500) are from a PVC conduit manufacturer's page, a second source for the other Sch 80 walls (equal at every size that page lists: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 3 and 4 in); that page's ID columns (for example 0.824 in for 3/4 in Sch 40, against Wheatland and Atkore's 0.780) are different quantities and are not used. No Sch 80 data for 5 in was read. - Not covered: Type EB and DB (encased burial / direct burial) conduit, fittings (sockets, elbows), and the PVC pipe tables, which are on pvc-schedule-40-80-pipe-od-and-wall and schedule-40-pipe (1/2 to 2 in Sch 40 pipe sections). Steel conduit: rigid-imc-emt-conduit-sizes-to-4-in and emt-conduit; flexible and liquid-tight metal conduit: flexible-metal-conduit-fmc-lfmc-trade-sizes. - Files: 100 mm hollow sections at the average OD and the minimum wall: Schedule 40 for 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2, 4, 5 and 6 in (1/2 to 2 in Schedule 40 is on schedule-40-pipe) and Schedule 80 for 1/2 to 4 in. The length is Xem's example length; actual conduit ID varies with the tolerances above. schedule trade size, in average OD, in OD, mm minimum wall, in minimum wall, mm min. average ID, in min. average ID, mm OD − 2 × min. wall, in Schedule 40 1/2 0.840 21.34 0.109 2.77 0.578 14.68 0.622 Schedule 40 3/4 1.050 26.67 0.113 2.87 0.780 19.81 0.824 Schedule 40 1 1.315 33.40 0.133 3.38 1.004 25.50 1.049 Schedule 40 1-1/4 1.660 42.16 0.140 3.56 1.335 33.91 1.380 Schedule 40 1-1/2 1.900 48.26 0.145 3.68 1.564 39.73 1.610 Schedule 40 2 2.375 60.33 0.154 3.91 2.021 51.33 2.067 Schedule 40 2-1/2 2.875 73.03 0.203 5.16 2.414 61.32 2.469 Schedule 40 3 3.500 88.90 0.216 5.49 3.008 76.40 3.068 Schedule 40 3-1/2 4.000 101.60 0.226 5.74 3.486 88.54 3.548 Schedule 40 4 4.500 114.30 0.237 6.02 3.961 100.61 4.026 Schedule 40 5 5.563 141.30 0.258 6.55 4.975 126.37 5.047 Schedule 40 6 6.625 168.28 0.280 7.11 5.986 152.04 6.065 Schedule 40 8 8.625 219.08 0.322 8.18 7.853 199.47 7.981 Schedule 80 1/2 0.840 21.34 0.147 3.73 0.502 12.75 0.546 Schedule 80 3/4 1.050 26.67 0.154 3.91 0.608 15.44 0.742 Schedule 80 1 1.315 33.40 0.179 4.55 0.910 23.11 0.957 Schedule 80 1-1/4 1.660 42.16 0.191 4.85 1.227 31.17 1.278 Schedule 80 1-1/2 1.900 48.26 0.200 5.08 1.446 36.73 1.500 Schedule 80 2 2.375 60.33 0.218 5.54 1.881 47.78 1.939 Schedule 80 2-1/2 2.875 73.03 0.276 7.01 2.250 57.15 2.323 Schedule 80 3 3.500 88.90 0.300 7.62 2.820 71.63 2.900 Schedule 80 3-1/2 4.000 101.60 0.318 8.08 — — 3.364 Schedule 80 4 4.500 114.30 0.337 8.56 3.737 94.92 3.826 Schedule 80 6 6.625 168.28 0.432 10.97 — — 5.761 Schedule 80 8 8.625 219.08 0.500 12.70 — — 7.625 Files elsewhere (not hosted by Xem Studio; license as stated by the publisher): - Wheatland Tube: PVC conduit specifications: Schedule 40 and Schedule 80, 1/2 to 4 in: average OD, minimum wall, minimum average ID — web — Maker spec sheet; numbers only — https://wheatland.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/PVC-Conduit-Specifications.pdf - Atkore: PVC rigid Schedule 40 conduit (spec ATCE-SPEC-6709-2402): average OD, minimum wall, ID, 1/2 to 8 in — web — Distributor-hosted maker spec; numbers only — https://www.elliottelectric.com/Media/PVC6-PVC - PVC conduit manufacturer (pvcconduitmanufacturer.com): PVC electrical conduit sizes: OD, Schedule 40 / 80 minimum wall and average ID, 1/2 to 8 in — web — Maker page; numbers only.
