PVC Schedule 40 socket dimensions (ASTM D2466): entrance Ø, bottom Ø, socket length, 1/2 to 4 in — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/pvc-socket-dimensions-astm-d2466/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: ASTM D2466-23 and -17 Table 1 (iTeh sample pages), Wavin data sheet and Charlotte Pipe submittal agree; numbers only; McMaster-Carr linked for CAD Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - PVC pipe is NOT a straight press fit. A Schedule 40 socket is a taper: it is widest at the entrance (A) and narrowest at the bottom (B), and the pipe OD sits between them (1/2 in: pipe OD 0.840, socket 0.848 at the mouth and 0.836 at the bottom). Solvent cement fills the gap; a dry pipe goes in part-way and stops. A part that goes INTO a socket (a printed adapter spigot) is sized to the pipe OD, from the page 'pvc-schedule-40-80-pipe-od-and-wall'; the table here is for a part that is a socket. - Same table, three readings: ASTM D2466-23 (iTeh sample pages) Table 1 for 1/2 to 4 in (1/8 to 12 in there), ASTM D2466-17 (identical for every size and column), Wavin's data sheet (A and B for all 10 sizes) and Charlotte Pipe's submittal (A, B and C for 9 sizes, no 3-1/2). All agree to the thousandth of an inch. - C is the MINIMUM socket length. A maker's real socket can be longer (Charlotte's 1/2 in 90° elbow has a 3/4 in deep socket, Spears' 3/4 in has 15/16 in): see the laying-length page. D is the minimum inside diameter of the waterway and M the minimum hub outside diameter; makers mold the hub larger (Spears prints M = 1-1/8 in for a 1/2 in elbow vs 0.998 here). - Charlotte's submittal also gives the Schedule 80 socket length C: 1/2 in 0.875, 3/4 in 1.000, 1 in 1.125, 1-1/4 in 1.250, 1-1/2 in 1.375, 2 in 1.500, 2-1/2 in 1.750, 3 in 1.875, 4 in 2.250 (the submittal prints one A and B for both schedules). No Schedule 80 fitting standard table was read, so no Sch 80 hub or bore is listed. - McMaster-Carr's Schedule 40 PVC fitting page (linked) lists socket-connect elbows, tees and couplings in 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 and 2 in (3 and 4 in for some); it does not print socket dimensions. Left out: sizes under 1/2 in and over 4 in (in D2466-23 but not asked), the wall-thickness and out-of-round columns of Table 1 whose column assignment was scrambled in extraction. nominal pipe size, in A: socket entrance Ø, in (mm) B: socket bottom Ø, in (mm) tolerance on A and B, in (mm) C: socket length, min, in (mm) D: inside Ø, min, in (mm) M: hub outside Ø, min, in (mm) 1/2 0.848 (21.54) 0.836 (21.23) ±0.004 (±0.10) 0.688 (17.48) 0.578 (14.68) 0.998 (25.35) 3/4 1.058 (26.87) 1.046 (26.57) ±0.004 (±0.10) 0.719 (18.26) 0.740 (18.80) 1.221 (31.01) 1 1.325 (33.65) 1.310 (33.27) ±0.005 (±0.13) 0.875 (22.22) 0.990 (25.15) 1.504 (38.20) 1-1/4 1.670 (42.42) 1.655 (42.04) ±0.005 (±0.13) 0.938 (23.83) 1.335 (33.91) 1.871 (47.52) 1-1/2 1.912 (48.56) 1.894 (48.11) ±0.006 (±0.15) 1.094 (27.79) 1.564 (39.73) 2.127 (54.03) 2 2.387 (60.63) 2.369 (60.17) ±0.006 (±0.15) 1.156 (29.36) 2.021 (51.33) 2.634 (66.90) 2-1/2 2.889 (73.38) 2.868 (72.85) ±0.007 (±0.18) 1.750 (44.45) 2.414 (61.32) 3.170 (80.52) 3 3.516 (89.31) 3.492 (88.70) ±0.008 (±0.20) 1.875 (47.62) 3.008 (76.40) 3.841 (97.56) 3-1/2 4.016 (102.01) 3.992 (101.40) ±0.008 (±0.20) 2.000 (50.80) 3.486 (88.54) 4.374 (111.10) 4 4.518 (114.76) 4.491 (114.07) ±0.009 (±0.23) 2.000 (50.80) 3.961 (100.61) 4.907 (124.64) Files elsewhere (not hosted by Xem Studio; license as stated by the publisher): - ASTM International (iTeh sample pages): ASTM D2466-23, PVC plastic pipe fittings, Schedule 40: Table 1 tapered sockets (A, B, C, D, M) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://cdn.standards.iteh.ai/samples/115891/d554fe0f89704b3490e92629642ca418/ASTM-D2466-23.pdf - ASTM International (iTeh sample pages): ASTM D2466-17 Table 1 (identical values for 1/2 to 4 in) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://cdn.standards.iteh.ai/samples/97866/5818cd2232884a6290af06083e9f444b/ASTM-D2466-17.pdf - Wavin: PVC Sch 40 fittings data sheet: Table 1 tapered sockets (A, B) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://blog.wavin.com/hubfs/Product%20Literature/PVC%20Sch40%20Fittings%20Data%20Sheet.pdf - Charlotte Pipe: PVC Schedule 40 submittal: socket entrance A, bottom B, socket length C (Sch 40 and Sch 80) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://www.charlottepipe.com/Documents/Submittal/FO-SUB-PVC-40.pdf - McMaster-Carr: PVC (Schedule 40) fittings and pipe, UV-resistant (socket-connect elbows, tees, couplings) (free STEP/IGES per part, for your own design use; no redistribution) — STEP, IGES, PDF — McMaster-Carr site terms: personal design use, no redistribution [verify license at link] — https://www.mcmaster.com/products/uv-resistant-pvc-(schedule-40)-pipe-fittings-and-pipe/ - McMaster-Carr: Pipe and fittings, ASTM D2665 (PVC DWV) (free STEP/IGES per part, for your own design use; no redistribution) — STEP, IGES, PDF — McMaster-Carr site terms: personal design use, no redistribution [verify license at link] — https://www.mcmaster.com/products/pipe-and-fittings/specifications-met~astm-d2665/ No true-size file yet: the published figures do not fix the whole shape; a measured scan is planned.
