Retaining rings DIN 472 (internal, for bores): ring dimensions and groove diameter d2 × width m, 8 to 110 mm — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/retaining-rings-din-472-internal/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: DIN 472:2017 table as published by Maedler (d1, s, d2, m, d3, a, b); four rows cross-checked; McMaster-Carr linked for CAD Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - DIN 472 is the internal retaining ring for bores: the ring sits in a groove cut into the housing bore and presses outward. Groove diameter d2 is larger than the bore d1 (depth = (d2 − d1) / 2, computed here), groove width m is the ring thickness + 0.1 mm up to 1.75 mm rings and + 0.15 mm from 2.0 mm rings up (true on every row). The ring numbers are thickness s, free outside diameter d3, lug width a and ring width b. - Table: 8 to 110 mm as printed in Maedler's DIN 472:2017 data sheet. Four rows (10, 20, 30, 38 mm) agree with an example table on Sunhyings' page; no second full table was readable, so a, b and d3 are from Maedler only. The groove depth column is derived from d1 and d2, not printed. - Files: grooved test sleeves for 11 sizes, bore d1 with the groove d2 × m, nominal. The sleeve's outside diameter (d2 + 6 mm), length (16 mm) and groove position are an example chosen here, not published; d1, d2 and m are the standard's. A bearing seat that needs a ring combines this groove with the bearing OD (see the deep-groove bearing pages). - Left out: the ring outline (lug shape and gap are not fully published), the lug-hole diameter d5 and the groove edge margin n (not in the table used), sizes below 8 mm and above 110 mm, heavy type. - McMaster-Carr: its DIN retaining ring category is linked below (it covers DIN 471 and DIN 472 rings); inch internal rings are also stocked there under MS 16625-type listings, but that size table was not readable here, so no inch numbers are given. bore d1, mm ring thickness s, mm ring free outer Ø d3, mm lug width a (max), mm ring width b (approx), mm groove Ø d2, mm groove width m, mm groove depth (d2 − d1) / 2, mm 8 0.8 8.7 2.4 1.1 8.4 0.9 0.2 10 1 10.8 3.2 1.4 10.4 1.1 0.2 11 1 11.8 3.3 1.5 11.4 1.1 0.2 12 1 13 3.4 1.7 12.5 1.1 0.25 13 1 14.1 3.6 1.8 13.6 1.1 0.3 14 1 15.1 3.7 1.8 14.6 1.1 0.3 15 1 16.2 3.7 2 15.7 1.1 0.35 16 1 17.3 3.8 2 16.8 1.1 0.4 17 1 18.3 3.9 2.1 17.8 1.1 0.4 18 1 19.5 4.1 2.2 19 1.1 0.5 19 1 20.5 4.1 2.2 20 1.1 0.5 20 1 21.5 4.1 2.3 21 1.1 0.5 21 1 22.5 4.2 2.4 22 1.1 0.5 22 1 23.5 4.2 2.5 23 1.1 0.5 24 1.2 25.9 4.3 2.6 25.2 1.3 0.6 25 1.2 26.9 4.5 2.7 26.2 1.3 0.6 26 1.2 27.9 4.7 2.8 27.2 1.3 0.6 28 1.2 30.1 4.8 2.9 29.4 1.3 0.7 30 1.2 32.1 4.8 3 31.4 1.3 0.7 32 1.2 34.4 5.4 3.2 33.7 1.3 0.85 35 1.5 37.8 5.4 3.4 37 1.6 1 37 1.5 39.8 5.5 3.6 39 1.6 1 38 1.5 40.8 5.5 3.7 40 1.6 1 40 1.75 43.5 5.8 3.9 42.5 1.85 1.25 42 1.75 45.5 5.9 4.1 44.5 1.85 1.25 45 1.75 48.5 6.2 4.3 47.5 1.85 1.25 47 1.75 50.5 6.4 4.4 49.5 1.85 1.25 50 2 54.2 6.5 4.6 53 2.15 1.5 52 2 56.2 6.7 4.7 55 2.15 1.5 55 2 59.2 6.8 5 58 2.15 1.5 58 2 62.2 6.9 5.2 61 2.15 1.5 60 2 64.2 7.3 5.4 63 2.15 1.5 62 2 66.2 7.3 5.5 65 2.15 1.5 68 2.5 72.5 7.8 6.1 71 2.65 1.5 72 2.5 76.5 7.8 6.4 75 2.65 1.5 75 2.5 79.5 7.8 6.6 78 2.65 1.5 80 2.5 85.5 8.5 7 83.5 2.65 1.75 85 3 90.5 8.6 7.2 88.5 3.15 1.75 90 3 95.5 8.6 7.6 93.5 3.15 1.75 100 3 105.5 9.2 8.4 103.5 3.15 1.75 110 4 117 10.4 9 114 4.15 2 Files elsewhere (not hosted by Xem Studio; license as stated by the publisher): - Maedler: Retaining rings DIN 472 for boreholes (DIN 472:2017): d1, s, d2, m, d3, a, b, 8 to 110 mm — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://smarthost.maedler.de/datenblaetter/K43_N79_EN.pdf - Sunhyings: Retaining rings (circlips) for shafts and bores: example groove table (DIN 472 rows used as a cross-check) — web — Publisher's page; dimensions are facts — https://sunhyings.com/?p=10628 - McMaster-Carr: DIN retaining rings (DIN 471 / 472) (free STEP/IGES per part, for your own design use; no redistribution) — STEP, IGES, PDF — McMaster-Carr site terms: personal design use, no redistribution [verify license at link] — https://www.mcmaster.com/products/din-retaining-rings/ - McMaster-Carr: Retaining rings (free STEP/IGES per part, for your own design use; no redistribution) — STEP, IGES, PDF — McMaster-Carr site terms: personal design use, no redistribution [verify license at link] — https://www.mcmaster.com/products/retaining-rings/ Free files (CC BY 4.0, Xem Studio; STEP + STL, 11 parts): https://xemstudio.com/files/hardware/retaining-rings-din-472-internal/index.json API: https://xemstudio.com/api/geometry?object=retaining-rings-din-472-internal
