## Notes

- Rod ends (heim joints, ball joint rod ends) are a spherical plain bearing in an eye with a threaded shank: male (a threaded stud, AR / AL) or female (a threaded hole, IR / IL), right-hand or left-hand thread. Series K to DIN ISO 12240-4 is the table used here; the bore tolerance in the source is H7 and the female thread is ISO 6H.
- Numbers: Maedler's K43_803 table (nine sizes, 5 to 20 mm). The M8 female row matches Ameco's rod end sheet (bore 8, B 12, C1 9, d2 24, d3 12.5, d4 16, h1 36, l3 16) exactly. The B, C1, d1 and d2 columns are the same on the male and the female type in the source table (asserted); the remaining columns differ and are shown separately as female / male. The letters are the source's and are not interpreted here. G, α and weight columns of the source were not legible and are left out.
- A series E male rod end for comparison, Schaeffler GAR10-DO: bore 10, ball width B 9, ball Ø dK 16, head Ø d1 13.2, d2 29, h 48, C1 7, l1 26, l2 62.5, α 12°, thread M10 (single source).
- Files: none. A solid needs the eye shape, the shank flats and the thread run-out, which are not in the tables.
- Left out: the other rod-end lines (Igus, Misumi), series E tables other than GAR10, the L (left-hand) variants' tolerance, load ratings, chamfers.

## Questions

**What are the dimensions of an M8 rod end?**

Series K 8: bore 8, B 12, C1 9, d1 10.4, d2 24; female d3 12.5, d4 16, h1 36, l 16; male h 42, l 25; thread M8.

**What is the difference between male and female rod ends?**

Male has a threaded stud, female has a threaded hole: the head and bore are the same, the shank differs.

**What are the dimensions of an M10 rod end?**

Series K 10: bore 10, B 14, C1 10.5, d1 12.9, d2 28; female h1 43, l 20; male h 48, l 29; thread M10.

**What is series K in DIN ISO 12240-4?**

A dimension series of rod ends in the standard; the table here is series K, with one series E male part (Schaeffler GAR10) listed for comparison.
