## Notes

- A hand lever turns a 20-tooth pinion meshing with a 60-tooth sector (3 : 1); an arm on the sector drives the platen down through a connecting rod and a guided block. Force at the platen ≈ 3 × (lever / arm) × hand force = 3 × 60/60 × F, rising as the rod comes into line with the guide.
- Drawn with the sector turned 12°: the arm end at (12.47, -58.69), the platen block at y = -117.38 in a 6.2 mm slot (contact), the 60 mm catalog link as the rod.
- Brown's No. 133 (press: crank, pinion, toothed sector and connecting rod to the platen).

- Brown's movement No. 133 (1868) shows it; this model is a Xem Studio design following his figure, every part at true size.

**How does a sector gear give a press its force?**
