## Notes

- Gauge numbers are not a physical unit: each material has its own table, so 10 gauge is 0.1345 in in steel, 0.1382 in in galvanized, 0.1406 in in stainless and 0.1019 in in aluminium. Steel, galvanized and stainless columns are from CNCCookbook's tables; every even gauge from 8 to 30 (and 7) also appears on SSM Alloys' chart and the two agree to the fourth decimal (the code checks this). The mm values are inches × 25.4. Both sites present the tables without citing the standard; the sources do not name the standard behind the steel column (it is the one usually called the Manufacturers' Standard Gauge).
- Aluminium and brass: SSM Alloys lists the Brown & Sharpe values for gauges 7 to 12 and even gauges to 30, and every one of them equals the AWG diameter in ASTM B258 (Xem checked all 15). So the other gauges for aluminium are the AWG numbers on the AWG page; they are left '-' here because no sheet-gauge source listed them. Aluminium sheet is normally ordered by decimal thickness, not gauge.
- Gauge tables shown: steel 3 to 38, galvanized 8 to 32, stainless 3 to 38. Zero and multi-zero stainless gauges (0 to 0000000, 0.3125 to 0.5000 in) are on the CNCCookbook page and are not repeated. Sheet thickness tolerances are separate tables in the same sources (not reproduced).
- Tube wall gauges (the Alu / Copper / Brass / Steel tube column in SSM's chart: 10 gauge 0.134 in, 11 0.120, 12 0.109, 14 0.083, 16 0.065, 18 0.049, 20 0.035, 22 0.028, 24 0.022) are a different series again; see the steel tube gauge page for square and rectangular tube. Wire gauges (AWG, SWG) are on their own pages. No files: a sheet is a plain plate.
