# Squashed (wide) X frame

> What is a squashed X frame?

- Category: Drone design › Drone frame layouts
- Kind: Standard part
- Basis: Design rules and figures from the cited sources; example geometry by Xem Studio

**Exact dimensions.** True size, with no printing tolerance added.

## Notes

- A squashed X is wider than it is long; freestyle pilots say it gives smooth rolls (IntoFPV). Roll authority is highest and pitch reduced, which may need higher pitch P-gain (UAVModel).
- Props partly show; a camera mounted 5-10 mm ahead of the standoffs can clear them (UAVModel).
- The file is a reference example built by Xem Studio from the numbers above (Reference 5-inch build: 220 mm diagonal within Grepow's 210-250 mm class for 5 in props.). Sizes the sources do not fix are illustrative; scale the example to your own vehicle.

## Sizes

| parameter | value or range | source |
|---|---|---|
| Camera offset to clear props | 5-10 mm forward | UAVModel |
| 5 in prop frame size | 210-250 mm diagonal (motor to motor) | Grepow |

## Questions

**Why freestyle?**
