## Notes

- Taper-Lock (A-Metric, Tsubaki) or taper bushing (Martin) is a split tapered bushing that clamps a hub to a shaft; the table lists the sizes from 1008 to 5050. The bushing number is the style (1008, 1108, 1210 ... 5050); a hub or sprocket 'for 1210' fits any bore the 1210 bushing is cut to.
- Table: length through bore L and screw sizes from A-Metric's Taper-Lock page (inch group), bore ranges from the same page (metric group). L of the first five bushings equals the B column of Tsubaki's table (7/8, 7/8, 1, 1-1/2, 1 in; Tsubaki does not label the column), whose inch bore ranges (0.500 to 1.000, 1.125, 1.250, 1.250, 1.375 in for 1008 to 1310) are also used. Martin's 1108 sheet agrees on the 0.500 to 1.125 in range and on two 1/4-20 × 1/2 set screws tightened to 55 in-lb. Bores outside the table's range are special.
- Metric bore range note: A-Metric's metric group lists 2517 and 2525 as 'BSW' versions with the screw sizes in the inch rows differing slightly from the ANSI ones, and shows 3525 to 5050 with socket-head cap screws. The ranges are one maker's list; check the catalogue for the exact bore and keyway.
- Left out: flange diameter and bolt circle. Tsubaki and Martin print columns A and D (A 1.386 / 1.511 / 1.875 / 1.875 / 2.000 in and D 1.328 / 1.453 / 1.750 / 1.750 / 1.875 in for 1008 to 1310) but the pages read do not say which is which, so neither is shown; do not use them for a pocket. The tapered outside diameter, the taper, keyway sizes (only Martin's 1108 table was read) and weights are not tabulated.
- No files: the tapered outside diameter and the split are not published in the tables read, so a bushing file would be invented. For a hub drawing, take the dimensions from the maker's CAD or catalogue (links below).
- Keys: bushings use parallel keys; sizes are on the parallel-keys-din-6885 and square-keys-inch pages.

## Mating features (exact size; open press / slide / run / socket by your process clearance, leave designed and clamp as drawn)

|---|---|---|---|---|
| keyway | parallel key per bushing bore (Martin 1108 sheet: 1/8 × 1/16 to 1/4 × 1/8 in by bore) | parallel key on parallel-keys-din-6885 / square-keys-inch | slide | all |
| set / cap screws | 2 per bushing: 1/4-20 × 1/2 (1008, 1108) to 7/8 × 2-1/4 (4545, 5050) | hub tapped holes of the same thread (see socket-head-cap-screws-inch) | designed | all |

## Questions

**What is the length of a 1210 Taper-Lock bushing?**

1 in (25.4 mm) through the bore; the 1215 is 1-1/2 in. It takes 0.500 to 1.250 in bores and two 3/8-16 × 5/8 set screws.

**What bore range does a 1108 Taper-Lock bushing cover?**

0.500 to 1.125 in (A-Metric, Tsubaki and Martin's sheet agree); metric 11 to 28 mm.

**What is the difference between Taper-Lock and QD bushings?**

Both are split tapered bushings sized by a letter / number code. The QD (quick-disconnect) bushings in Martin's table use three cap screws on a bolt circle; the Taper-Lock bushings here use two set or cap screws. QD sizes are on the QD bushing page.
