# Thermoelectric (Peltier) modules: TEC1-12706, 12710, 30 mm

> What are TEC1-12706 dimensions?

- Category: Hardware › Stirling & thermoacoustic
- Kind: Hardware
- Basis: Common TEC1 module sizes from manufacturer datasheets (Hebei I.T., Laird equivalents); thickness varies ±0.1 mm by maker

## Notes

- TEC1-12706: 40 × 40 × 3.8 mm (127 couples, 6 A, ~60 W heat pumping at ΔT 0); the standard hobby module. TEC1-12710: 40 × 40 × 3.3–3.4 mm, 10 A. 30 × 30 × 3.4 mm modules (TEC1-12704, 03104 class) for small loads. 50 × 50 and 62 × 62 exist for high current.
- Leads exit one edge (red +, black −); keep 5 mm clear there. Hot and cold faces are the ceramic plates: clamp between heat sinks with thermal paste, 4 × M3 at the heat-sink corners, never over-tighten (ceramic cracks).
- As a generator (Seebeck) a 12706 gives ~1–2 W at ΔT 100 K; the high-temperature TEG modules (TEG1-12611 etc.) share the 40 × 40 footprint but run to 300 °C.
- Why it's here: the LES thermoacoustic builds use a 12706 as a ΔT instrument and as a TEG on the cold spool to run the fan.

## Questions

**What are TEC1-12706 dimensions?**

40 × 40 × 3.8 mm (±0.1), leads 0.9 mm² on one edge, about 24 g. Fits between any two 40 mm heat sinks.

**What is the difference between TEC1-12706 and 12710?**

Current rating (6 vs 10 A) and thickness: 3.8 vs 3.3–3.4 mm. Same 40 × 40 footprint.

**Can a Peltier module generate power?**

Yes, as a Seebeck generator: a 12706 gives roughly 1–2 W at a 100 K temperature difference, enough for a 40 mm fan; dedicated TEG modules tolerate higher temperatures.
