# Knurled thumb screws, low type (DIN 653), M1–M10: head diameter, head height, shank, nominal lengths + 6 models

> What are the dimensions of a DIN 653 low-profile knurled thumb screw (M3, M4, M5, M6, M8)?

- Category: Hardware › Fasteners
- Kind: Standard part
- Basis: fasten.it's DIN 653 table (08/2006) and mass grid (nominal lengths) with Westfield Fasteners' table (dk nominal / max / min, k min, knurl pitch, shank limits); six envelope models as files

## Overall (mm)

| length | width | height |
|---|---|---|
| 36.0 | 36.0 | 28.0 |

**Exact dimensions.** Every file is drawn at true size with no tolerance added. The holes and pins that meet another part are listed below under Mating features, with the fit each joint needs; open those by your process's clearance before making the part.

## Notes

- Millimetres, M1 to M10. DIN 653 is the low type of the knurled thumb screw (DIN 464 is the high type: knurled-thumb-screws-din-464). Columns: pitch P, a1 max (neither source defines it), head diameter dk (nominal, with Westfield's max / min), shank diameter d max / min (Westfield's pair, from M2 up), head height k (nominal = max; Westfield also gives k min), top-edge radius r max, minimum knurl pitch, and the nominal length range from fasten.it's mass table. The lengths between the ends are not listed here (the mass grid was not reproduced).
- The two sources agree on dk, P, a1 and r for every size. Their column letters differ: what fasten.it labels 'e' (e.g. 4 for M6) Westfield labels 'ds', and what fasten.it labels 'k max' (5 for M6) Westfield labels 'e nom = max' and also gives 'k min' (4.7). Neither source defines these letters; the table uses k (5 mm for M6, the value both sources print as the head height max / nominal), and the third dimension is left out. The page does not give a thread length b, a slot size or a knurl profile (none is printed), so none is shown.
- Files: a plain head cylinder at dk (nominal) and k on a plain shank at the nominal thread diameter. Each is the shortest length in fasten.it's list for that size (an example, Xem's choice of the end of the range). No knurl, chamfer, edge radius or thread is modelled because none is published as numbers.
- McMaster-Carr sells DIN 653 thumb screws with per-part STEP, and Halder (maker) has a data sheet; both linked, not copied.
