# Tri-clamp finned cooler: clamp-on halves for a 2 in tube

> How do I cool the cold side of a tri-clamp Stirling engine?

- Category: Hardware › Stirling & thermoacoustic
- Kind: Hardware
- Basis: ASME BPE 2 in tube OD (Ø50.8); clearance under a standard clamp; fin sizes are design values

**Exact dimensions.** Every file is drawn at true size with no printing tolerance. The holes and pins that meet another part are listed below under Mating features, with the fit each joint needs; open those by your printer's or process's clearance before making the part.

## Notes

- Two halves close on the tube OD between the clamps of a 3 in spool (61.9 mm of plain tube); each half is 56 long with a 3 mm sleeve and nine Ø88 × 2 fins at 6 mm pitch.
- The halves leave 1 mm between them; four M4 × 30 screws and nuts through the ears pull them onto the tube (clamp fit).
- The fins clear the clamps: the clamp ring reaches 7.1 mm past the ferrule face, the cooler starts 3 mm beyond that.

## Mating features (exact size; open press / slide / run / socket by your process clearance, leave designed and clamp as drawn)

| feature | exact | mates with | fit | files |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bore | Ø50.8 | 2 in tube OD | clamp | cooler-half-* |
| ear holes | Ø4.5 | M4 clearance (ISO 273 medium) | designed | cooler-half-* |

## Sizes

| size_in | bore_mm | length_mm | fin_od_mm | fins | screws |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 50.8 | 56.0 | 88.0 | 9 | 4 × M4 × 30 + nuts |

## Questions

**Does it fit between the clamps of a 3 in spool?**

Yes: 56 mm on 61.9 mm of plain tube, 3 mm clear of each clamp.

**Is there a liquid-cooled option?**

The jacket shell on this site clamps on the same tube in the same place.
