## Notes

- The upper face of a wheel on an upright shaft rises and falls in waves round its circumference. A bar standing on it through a roller is lifted by each crest and lowered by each hollow as the wheel turns: two waves give two strokes per turn, with the motion of the wave's shape (here a sine).
- Ø60 wheel, face z = 14 + 4 sin 2θ (8 mm stroke, two per turn); a 623 bearing on a radial pin under an 8 × 8 bar rests on it, drawn on a crest. The bar's guide is not drawn.
- Brown's No. 165 (waved wheel on an upright shaft giving a rising and falling motion to a bar).

- Brown's movement No. 165 (1868) shows it; this model is a Xem Studio design following his figure, every part at true size.

## Questions

**How does a waved wheel make a bar rise and fall?**
