SAE J1508 worm-gear hose clamp sizes: SAE number to min / max diameter and band width, sizes 4–312 — dimension sheet Source: Xem Studio, https://xemstudio.com/objects/worm-gear-hose-clamps-sae/ (sheet CC BY 4.0) Basis: A worm-drive clamp specification sheet headed SAE J1508 Type F and M, cross-checked against Dixon's HS / HSS clamp table; numbers only (a clamp band has no published profile) Catalog version: 2026-10-20 Sizes: see table below - The SAE number is a size code for the clamp; the diameters are the sizes of hose, tube or barb the clamp is meant to close on, in inches as printed (mm columns are computed as inch × 25.4 and rounded to 0.1 mm). Min is the smallest effective clamping diameter and max the largest. - Agreement: for every size 6 to 212 listed in both, the specification sheet and Dixon's HS table print identical min and max. Size 4 is on the sheet and in Zoro's chart (7/32 to 5/8 in); Dixon's range starts at 6. Sizes 60, 200, 224, 236, 248, 312 are in Dixon's table only. - Disagreement: Zoro's chart and a Unilog catalogue print different numbers for several sizes: for example size 8 max 1 in in both (sheet and Dixon: 29/32), size 10 max 1-1/8 in both (1-1/16), size 36 min 7/8 in Unilog (1-13/16), size 72 min 3-1/8 in Unilog (1-7/8), and Zoro's size 64 min 2-1/2 in is smaller than its size 60's min. Dixon's table prints size 12 max as '1-1/14' (a typo for 1-1/4, which the sheet gives). Those chart numbers are not used. A third source (crimpsupply, SAE 4 mini) is titled 1/4 to 5/8 in, not 7/32 to 5/8, for size 4, and its SAE 6 page gives 7/16 to 3/4 in against 25/32 on the sheet. Check the clamp's own printed range for a tight fit. - Band width: the specification sheet lists the clamp part families at 5/16 in (SAE 4 and 6, the miniature type M), 1/2 in and 9/16 in (type F). The band-width column in Dixon's table is garbled in the source, and a Unilog catalogue lists 9/16 in for all its sizes, so the 'bands offered' column shows what the specification sheet offers per size and is not a requirement of the standard. Band thickness, screw head size, housing length and slot pitch are not published in any source used, so no clamp is drawn. - Also in the sources, not in the table: Jubilee-style British clamps (BS 5315) use millimetre ranges and 9.9 or 13 mm bands and are a different series; they are not SAE sizes. - McMaster-Carr's hose-clamp category (worm-drive, NAS 1922 and MS 35842 types appear in its URLs) has per-part STEP; linked, not copied.
