Notes
- E-clip grooves (DIN 6799), shaft → groove Ø × width: 2 → 1.4 × 0.4; 3 → 2.3 × 0.5; 4 → 3.2 × 0.7; 5 → 4.0 × 0.7; 6 → 5.0 × 0.7; 8 → 6.0 × 0.9; 10 → 8.0 × 1.1 mm. Circlip grooves (DIN 471): 5 → 4.8 × 0.7; 6 → 5.7 × 0.8; 8 → 7.6 × 0.9; 10 → 9.6 × 1.1; 12 → 11.5 × 1.1; 15 → 14.3 × 1.1; 20 → 19.0 × 1.3 mm.
- Set-screw collars: Ø3 bore 8 OD × 5; Ø5 10 × 6; Ø6 12 × 7; Ø8 16 × 8; Ø10 20 × 10; Ø12 22 × 10 (M3/M4/M5 screws). A collar each side of a bearing locates a shaft axially; a printed collar in PETG with an M3 holds a 5 mm shaft for light duty.
- D-flat: 0.4 × d deep (5 mm shaft → 2 mm flat, leaving 3 mm), 20 mm long; a set screw seats on it. Precision rod is h6 (5 mm: 5.000/4.992); a printed Ø5.2 hole is a running fit, Ø4.9 press.
- LES: Ø8 flywheel shafts in 608s with circlip grooves; Ø5 crank shafts in 625s with E-clips; collars where a clip groove is too much work.

Questions
What groove size for an E-clip on a 5 mm shaft?
Ø4.0 mm groove, 0.7 mm wide (DIN 6799 size 4). For a 3 mm shaft: Ø2.3 × 0.5; 8 mm: Ø6.0 × 0.9.
What is the circlip groove for an 8 mm shaft?
DIN 471: Ø7.6 mm, 0.9 mm wide; the clip is 0.8 mm thick. 10 mm shaft: Ø9.6 × 1.1.
How deep is a D-flat on a 5 mm shaft?
Usually 0.4 × d = 2 mm deep (3 mm remaining), 15–25 mm long; set screws seat on it so the pulley can't spin.
What size shaft collar for an 8 mm shaft?
16 mm OD, 8 mm wide, M4 set screw (typical metric catalogue size); the 5 mm collar is 10 × 6 with an M3.
