Notes

  • The whole bookcase or wardrobe is not something you design around; the shelf board is. These are the boards as IKEA's product pages list them (width × depth × thickness, mm). Use them for shelf dividers, clip-on bins, under-shelf drawers, edge-clamp hooks and replacement boards.
  • BILLY shelves are 20 mm thick; KOMPLEMENT (PAX) and IVAR shelves are 18 mm. IKEA notes the current BILLY shelf does not fit bookcases bought in spring 2014 or earlier.
  • KOMPLEMENT widths are the frame width minus 39 mm (50 → 461, 75 → 711, 100 → 961) and depths the frame depth minus 2 or 7 mm, as listed per size.
  • Not published by IKEA, so not drawn: shelf-pin hole diameter, hole pitch and hole rows in the side panels, the KALLAX cube interior and panel thickness. Owners report 5 mm holes on a 32 mm pitch for BILLY (see the 5 mm shelf pins page); measure your own unit once before drilling or printing a hole-pattern guide.
  • Max load is IKEA's per-shelf figure with the load spread evenly.
