Notes
- NEMA 24 (60 mm face) and NEMA 42 (110 mm face) steppers follow the NEMA ICS 16 convention that the name is the face width in tenths of an inch (24 = 2.4 in, 42 = 4.2 in). The face, hole pattern and pilot are fixed by the frame; shaft diameter, shaft length and body length are not, and the makers read for this page do not all agree.
- Numbers: the NEMA 24 face, hole spacing, hole diameter and pilot come from the igus MOT-AN-S datasheet's dimensions table, whose column labels are not printed in the extract read; they were assigned by matching the NEMA 23 row of the same table to published NEMA 23 values (56.4 face, 47.14 spacing, 6.35 shaft, 38.10 pilot, as on the 'NEMA 8 to 34' page). The igus shaft column is therefore listed as read, with the other makers beside it; the igus length columns are not used. Nanotec's NEMA 24 and 42 pages link STEP and PDF files for each motor but their dimensional drawings are images, so no numbers come from them beyond the 60 mm and 110 mm flange size. NEMA 42 numbers come from Hallikainen's frame table (inches, converted here at exactly 25.4) and JLC Motion Control, which agree on the spacing and the pilot; the hole diameter and pilot depth are Hallikainen only. Hallikainen has no NEMA 24 row.
- Numbers only, no files: no maker datasheet read prints the full outline of a NEMA 24 or NEMA 42 motor (pilot height, connector, shaft flat and body) in numbers, so the shape is not fully defined. For CAD, Nanotec's SCB6018M4204-B and ST11018L8004-B pages carry STEP downloads.
- Left out: the NEMA 24 pilot height and the NEMA 42 shaft length, torque and current ratings, the shaft key and flat sizes, and the double-shaft versions.

| NEMA 24 | mounting hole spacing (square) | 47.14 | igus MOT-AN-S | same as NEMA 23 (47.14); tolerance +-0.2 |
| NEMA 24 | mounting hole diameter | 4.5 | igus MOT-AN-S | 4 holes; NEMA 23 row of the same table shows 5.0, so hole size depends on the maker |
| NEMA 24 | pilot (register) diameter | 38.10 | igus MOT-AN-S | same as NEMA 23 (38.10); tolerance +-0.025 |
| NEMA 24 | shaft diameter | 8.00 (igus; Leadshine CM series text Ø8); 7.5 (Analog Devices QSH6018); 9.52 (Neoton 60BH); 10 (OMC 24HP / 24HS models) | igus, Analog Devices, Neoton, OMC | makers disagree: take the shaft from the motor's own drawing |
| NEMA 24 | shaft length | 22.4 (QSH6018); 21 (OMC models) | Analog Devices, OMC | maker-specific |
| NEMA 42 | face (flange) width | 110 | Nanotec ST11018, Motion Control Products, JLC Motion Control | JLC prints 4.2 in / 110 mm; Hallikainen shows a body diameter of 4.2 in (106.7 mm) |
| NEMA 42 | mounting hole spacing (square) | 88.9 (3.500 in, Hallikainen); 89 (JLC) | Hallikainen, JLC | same dimension; bolt circle 4.950 in = 125.73 mm (Hallikainen) = spacing x 1.414 |
| NEMA 42 | mounting hole diameter | 7.14 (0.281 in) | Hallikainen only | single source |
| NEMA 42 | pilot (register) diameter | 55.5 (JLC); 55.52 (2.186 in, Hallikainen) | JLC, Hallikainen | the two agree to 0.02 mm |

Questions
What is the NEMA 24 bolt pattern?
Four holes on a 47.14 mm square (the same pattern as NEMA 23), 4.5 mm holes in the igus table, pilot 38.10 mm, face 60 mm.
What is the NEMA 42 bolt pattern?
Four holes on an 88.9 mm (3.500 in) square, pilot about 55.5 mm, face 110 mm; hole size 7.14 mm (0.281 in) on one source.
What is the NEMA 24 shaft diameter?
It depends on the maker: 8 mm (igus), 7.5 mm (Analog Devices QSH6018), 9.52 mm (Neoton 60BH), 10 mm (OMC).
What is the NEMA 42 shaft diameter?
Either 5/8 in (15.875 mm, Hallikainen and Anaheim) or 16 mm or 19 mm with a keyway, depending on the motor.
Is NEMA 24 the same mounting pattern as NEMA 23?
The hole spacing (47.14 mm) and pilot (38.10 mm) are the same in the igus table, but the face is 60 mm instead of 56.4 mm.
