Notes

  • F436 washers are the hardened washers used with A325 / A490 structural bolts. They are much larger and thicker than a standard flat washer (a 1/2 in F436 washer is 1.063 in OD and up to .177 in thick), and a 7/8 in washer has a 15/16 in ID and 1.75 in OD.
  • How the AFT table was read: its headings put four values under 'outside diameter', then one under 'inside diameter' and one under 'thickness'. The only reading consistent with the three sellers is OD max / min, then ID max / min, then thickness max and min (1/2: OD 1.094 / 1.031 against a 1.063 nominal, ID .562 / .531 against a .531 listing, T .177 as listed; 7/8: ID .969 / .938 against 15/16; 1: OD 2.031 / 1.969 against 2 in, ID 1.156 / 1.125 against 1-1/8). AFT lists thickness max as .177 in for all five sizes and thickness min .097, .122, .122, .136, .136; the sellers print .136 to .177 (7/8 and 1) and .177 ±.007 (1/2).
  • ASTM F436 scope (from a 2007 preview excerpt): circular washers for nominal bolt sizes 1/4 to 4 in; beveled washers 1/2 to 1-1/2 in with a 1:6 bevel; extra-thick circular washers of 5/16 in thickness in sizes 1/2 to 1-1/2 in. The dimension tables themselves (Tables 2, 3, 4) are not in the excerpt, so square, beveled, clipped and extra-thick washers and sizes over 1 in are not tabled here.
