Assembled engine

Mug LTD (sits on a coffee mug), assembled

A low-temperature-differential Stirling engine that sits on an 11 oz coffee mug: Ø90 plates around a Ø76 × 23 chamber, a 5 mL glass syringe power piston, and a crank pedestal carrying a Ø100 flywheel crank, 92 × 100 × 251 mm overall.

Build order

  1. Displacer on rod-2x100 (flush at the bottom); rod up through the top plate's Ø2 guide; rod clevis on its top.
  2. Bottom plate, chamber ring and top plate: five M3 × 30 at 60°…300° from the top into the tapped bottom plate; crank pedestal with two M3 × 8 through its foot and the top plate into the ring.
  3. plunger in; clevis cap on the plunger collar (grub).
  4. Two 623s in the pedestal block; Ø3 × 30 shaft; flywheel crank (hub inward) on the displacer side, crank disc on the syringe side with its pin 90° behind the flywheel's pin; con-rods outboard on the pins; six M8 nuts.
  5. Stand it on a mug of hot water.
