Metric hex socket set screws by point type: flat, cone, dog and cup (ISO 4026, 4027, 4028, 4029 / DIN 913–916), M1.6–M24 incl. M10 and M12
What are the hex key size, socket depth and point diameter of an M10 or M12 set screw (grub screw), and how do flat, cone, dog and cup points differ? · Standard part · basis: fasten.it reprints of DIN EN ISO 4026 / 4027 / 4028 / 4029 (05-2004) and Westfield's ISO 4026 / DIN 913 table (s max / min, dp min, t min by length); mm; numbers only
Also called: m10 set screw hex key size, m12 grub screw allen key, m10 grub screw dimensions, dog point set screw m10, cup point vs flat point set screw, iso 4029 cup point m12, din 915 dog point set screw, din 914 cone point, m12 set screw socket depth, set screw point types, m10 set screw lengths, grub screw hex key sizes metric

Notes
- The four ISO point forms: ISO 4026 flat point (DIN 913), ISO 4027 cone point (DIN 914), ISO 4028 dog point (DIN 915), ISO 4029 cup point (DIN 916). All share the same thread, hex socket (s nom) and socket width across corners; they differ only in the point. The fasten.it tables label every point diameter 'd1 max'; Westfield's table and AmesWeb's headings name them dp (flat and dog), dt (cone) and dz (cup), and this table does the same.
- Hex key: M10 5 mm, M12 6 mm (s nom), with s max / min printed by Westfield (M10 5.14 / 5.020, M12 6.14 / 6.020). Socket depth t min is given for the shortest lengths and for other lengths (Westfield: M10 4 and 6 mm, M12 4.8 and 8 mm); the fasten.it tables print it as a range (M10 4 ÷ 6, M12 4.8 ÷ 8) and the length threshold between the two is not printed on either page.
- Point sizes, M10 / M12: flat dp max 7.00 / 8.50 (dp min 6.64 / 8.14); cone dt max 2.5 / 3; dog dp max 7 / 8.5, dog length z max / min 2.75 / 2.5 and 3.25 / 3 for short screws and 5.3 / 5 and 6.3 / 6 for long screws; cup dz max 6 / 8 mm. 'Short' and 'long' are the fasten.it column labels; the length at which a dog point is 'long' is not printed on that page.
- Commercial lengths: the cone, dog and cup mass tables print M10 at 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 mm and M12 at 12, 16, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 mm (identical for the three). MRO Supply lists metric dog-point screws M4 to M12 in lengths 5 to 40 mm, so stock ranges are shorter than the standard's. Property class 45H, thread tolerance 6g (AmesWeb).
- Existing page: set-screws-metric covers the flat-point M3–M8 files; socket-set-screws-inch-asme-b18-3 is the inch family. No files here: the point angles (the chamfer on a flat point, the cone angle, the cup shape) are not in the tables read, so a point cannot be drawn from published numbers and a set screw without a point would be a plain cylinder. The page is a full numbers table instead. One typo-looking value on the fasten.it dog-point mass table (M2 at 3 mm: 0.53) is not used.

Questions
What hex key fits an M10 set screw?
5 mm (s nom); an M12 set screw takes 6 mm. Socket depth t min is 4 mm for the shortest M10 screws and 6 mm for others.
What is the difference between a cup point and a flat point set screw?
Flat point (ISO 4026) leaves a flat of diameter dp (7.00 mm max at M10); cup point (ISO 4029) has a cupped end of diameter dz (6 mm max at M10) that bites into the shaft.
What is a dog point set screw for?
A dog point (ISO 4028) ends in a cylindrical peg of diameter dp and length z (2.75 / 2.5 mm for a short M10) that locates in a hole or slot; the standard is also known as DIN 915.
