Shock angle and mounting position
How does shock angle affect an RC car? · Standard part · basis: Design rules and figures from the cited sources; example geometry by Xem Studio
Also called: shock angle, shock mounting position, laid down shocks, shock tower holes, shock lean, rc shock position, progressive damping, shock motion ratio, outer shock position

Notes
- Leaning a shock over reduces its effective rate at the wheel at first and makes it rise through the travel. Tekno: more lean gives softer initial damping, more progressive damping and more side traction; less lean gives harder, more linear damping and a more responsive car.
- CompetitionX notes that increasing the angle on the shock mount locations reduces understeer and improves bump handling.

Questions
Why is it progressive?
As the arm rises a leaned shock straightens, so its effective rate increases (Tekno describes the progressive feel).
