Copper solder (sweat) fittings: nominal size to tube OD, 1/4 to 3 in, and solder coupling length (ASME B16.22 family)
What tube OD does a 1/2, 3/4 or 1 inch copper sweat fitting take, and how long is a copper solder coupling? · Standard part · basis: McMaster-Carr's female solder-connect straight connector table (copper tube size, tube OD, overall length 'Lg.' as printed, two product lines), with the B16.22 and CDA table titles; numbers only. The B16.22 cup depth itself is not on this page
Also called: copper fitting dimensions, b16.22 dimensions, copper sweat fitting socket depth, 1/2 copper coupling length, copper pipe nominal size vs od, 3/4 copper fitting od, copper coupling length 3/4, sweat fitting cup depth, 1 inch copper pipe fitting od, copper solder fitting sizes chart, copper tube size 1/2 od 5/8, asme b16.22 cup depth

Notes
- Copper solder fittings (ASME B16.22 wrought; ASME B16.18 cast) are sized by nominal copper tube size, and the tube OD is the nominal size plus 1/8 in: 1/2 in is 5/8 in (15.88 mm) OD, 3/4 in is 7/8 in (22.22 mm), 1 in is 1-1/8 in (28.58 mm). The table pairs McMaster's 'Copper Tube Size' with its 'For Tube OD' exactly as printed (and every row obeys OD = nominal + 1/8 in). The pipe itself, with its wall thickness, is on copper-pipe-type-l-m.
- Coupling length. 'Lg.' is the overall length of a McMaster female solder-connect straight connector (a coupling, no centre stop) as the catalogue prints it. It is one distributor's part, not an ASME B16.22 limit: McMaster's cleaned-and-bagged line prints a different length for the three smallest sizes (3/8 → 47/64, 1/2 → 55/64, 5/8 → 1-7/64 in), so lengths differ by product line and maker. 'Lg.' is not defined on the page.
- Left out on purpose: the B16.22 socket depth (cup depth, dimension G) and socket bore range (A). Table 1 of ASME B16.22 holds them, but the standard is paywalled and the free previews and CDA handbook index list the table without its values (CDA Copper Tube Handbook Table 14.9 and Figure 14.5). No manufacturer sheet read prints the socket depth either, so the cup depth is not published here and is not computed from the coupling length. Get it from the standard or from your fitting's own drawing.
- Joining notes: a soldered joint needs the tube fully seated in the cup; for a push-to-connect joint see sharkbite-push-to-connect-insertion-depth (insertion depths are a maker value, measured from the fitting face). Male solder ends, elbows, tees and reducers are other McMaster tables and are not tabulated. No file: a coupling body would need the socket depth and bore, which are not published in a readable source. McMaster-Carr sells these fittings with per-part STEP; its pages are linked, not copied.

Questions
What is the OD of 3/4 inch copper pipe for a sweat fitting?
7/8 in (22.22 mm): copper tube OD is the nominal size plus 1/8 in, and the fitting is sized by the nominal 3/4.
How long is a 1/2 inch copper coupling?
1-1/16 in (26.99 mm) for McMaster's standard line and 1-7/64 in for its cleaned-and-bagged line; lengths vary by maker and product line.
What is the cup (socket) depth of a copper sweat fitting?
ASME B16.22 Table 1 defines it, but the table is not readable in any free source we could read, so it is not listed here; do not use the coupling length as the depth.
