Drill bushings DIN 172 (headed, with collar): bore range, OD n6, collar diameter and height, lengths, 0.4 to 63 mm

What are the dimensions of a DIN 172 drill bushing with a collar: bore range, outside diameter, collar diameter, collar height and length? · Standard part · basis: KIPP data sheet K1022 and OPAC's DIN 172 table (agree), DIN Media for the standard's title, Ganter / JW Winco for the fits; McMaster-Carr linked for CAD

Notes

  • DIN 172 is the press-fit drill bushing with a collar (head, flange): the collar seats on the plate or sits in a counterbore. DIN Media titles it 'Press fit jig bushes, headed' (Bundbohrbuchsen) and lists it as withdrawn, last edition 1992-11; makers (KIPP, Ganter / JW Winco, OPAC, Blohm) still sell parts to the DIN 172 dimensions. Same bores, OD and lengths as DIN 179 (headless), plus the collar d3 × l2. d3 is d2 + 3 mm up to d2 = 15 and d2 + 4 mm from d2 = 18, on every row.
  • Fits: bore d1 F7, OD d2 n6; the receiving hole is H7 (Ganter / JW Winco: 'holes with tolerance H7 are recommended for installing the bushings').
  • Where the sources agree: d2, d3, l2 and the short and long lengths on every row from 0.9 mm up (KIPP K1022 and OPAC 479); OPAC also has two rows above 48 mm (d2 70 / d3 74 and d2 78 / d3 82, collar 6) and KIPP a first row 0.4 to 0.8. A Ganter sample row (DIN 172 A 5.1 x 10: d2 10, d3 13, l2 3) and one ehorst listing (bore 7.5, d2 12, d3 15, length 20, collar 3) match. KIPP's third length is its 'long'; OPAC has two lengths (see the DIN 179 page). KIPP prints R and two tolerance columns T1 / T2 without defining them; R is shown, T1 and T2 are left out.
  • No file: none of the sheets read says whether l1 counts the collar (the ehorst and damencnc listings give 'length' only). Since the shape depends on it, no body is drawn. For a counterbored collar pocket, d3 is the collar diameter and l2 the collar height; the pocket is your design.
  • The ANSI inch equivalent with the head is on the ASME B94.33 page; both there and here the head is a straight disc.

Questions

What is the collar size of a DIN 172 drill bushing with a 6 mm bore?

OD 10 mm, collar Ø13 × 3 mm high (bore range 5.1 to 6.0), lengths 10 / 16 (and 20 in KIPP's table).

Is DIN 172 the one with or without the collar?

With: DIN 172 is the headed (collar) bushing, DIN 179 the plain one.

What hole does a DIN 172 bushing press into?

A Ø d2 hole to H7 (the bushing OD is n6); a counterbore of Ø d3 for the collar if you want it flush.
