RF bulkhead connectors BNC, N, TNC, F: IEC 61169 parts, thread, hex, panel thickness and mounting hole (as printed per drawing)
What size hole does a BNC, N, TNC or F bulkhead connector need, and what thread does each use? · Standard part · basis: Maker and distributor-hosted drawings for specific parts (Amphenol RF, TE, Pasternack, Fairview, e-sonic, Farnell-hosted, Cmpter) and the IEC 61169 titles; numbers only, no files
Also called: bnc bulkhead hole size, n type connector panel cutout, tnc bulkhead panel hole, f connector panel mount hole, bnc panel cutout 3/8-32, n connector thread 5/8-24, tnc thread 7/16-28, f connector thread 3/8-32, bnc connector d flat, iec 61169-8 bnc, iec 61169-24 f connector, coax bulkhead jack dimensions, rp-tnc panel hole, bnc bulkhead nut size 1/2 hex

Notes
- There is no single panel hole for a connector type: each drawing prints its own 'recommended mounting hole', and parts of the same type differ (a front-mount BNC with a 3/8-32 thread, a 1/2-28 sealed BNC, a PCB right-angle BNC). Every row is one drawing, with its numbers as printed. Use the drawing of the part you buy; the rows show the spread, they are not a standard.
- IEC 61169 parts (titles read): Part 8 BNC, inner diameter of outer conductor 6,5 mm (0,256 in), bayonet lock, 50 ohm; Part 16 type N, 7 mm (0,276 in), screw coupling, 50 ohms (75 ohms); Part 17 type TNC, screw coupling, 50 ohm; Part 24 type F, screw coupling, 75 ohm cable networks. SMA is on sma-bulkhead-connector (1/4-36 UNS) and U.FL on u-fl-connector.
- Threads printed on the drawings read: N 5/8-24 UNEF-2A, TNC 7/16-28 UNEF-2A (one TNC drawing prints 7/16-28 and 1/2-28 without saying which is which), F 3/8-32 UNEF-2A. A BNC couples by bayonet and has no coupling thread; the 3/8-32 and 1/2-28 threads in the BNC rows belong to the bulkhead body.
- Disagreements kept: the RP-TNC mounting hole is .480 in (12.19 mm) in the Pasternack product name and .476 +.005/-.000 in (12.09 mm) on its drawing; a TNC with a different drawing prints Ø11.43, another 11.80 REF. The two Amphenol/Cmpter BNC drawings both show a .382 in (9.70 mm) figure, the one value that appears twice for BNC.
- IEC 61169-24 sample pages (female socket, Table 1): port minimum full thread length 7.50 mm, thread relief not to exceed two full threads, reference plane opening inner diameter 3.90 to 7.4 mm, outer diameter 7.50 to 8.50 mm; male plug (Table 2): length of nut 4.00 to 7.29 mm, inner conductor length 6.35 to 8.63 mm, seal-ring surface diameter 10.41 to 11.04 mm. The sample prints no thread diameter or pitch.
- Several drawings label a recommended hole with no value in the text layer (the numbers sit in the drawing image), so those cells say so and nothing is guessed. No file: the D-flat width is not readable as a labelled number on any drawing, so no hole gauge is drawn.

Questions
What thread does a BNC bulkhead jack have?
On the drawings read it is 3/8-32 UNEF-2A (Amphenol RF 31-3376, a Cmpter BNC) or 1/2-28 UNEF (a sealed BNC and a PCB right-angle jack). The plug side couples by bayonet.
What hole for an F connector bulkhead?
Fairview's FMCN44212 drawing prints a recommended mounting hole of .380 +.005/-.000 in (9.65 +0.13/0.00 mm) for a 3/8-32 UNEF-2A thread, 7/16 hex, panel up to 2.00 mm.
What is the N connector thread?
5/8-24 UNEF-2A on the drawing read, with a 19 mm hex, panel up to 6.5 mm and a recommended Ø16.1 cutout.
