Tri-clamp honed cylinder spool: 2 in × 6 in, bore finished Ø48.00
Can a tri-clamp spool be a piston cylinder? · Hardware · basis: Standard 2 in × 6 in spool (ASME BPE tube Ø50.8 × 1.65, ISO 2852 faces) with the bore opened from Ø47.5 to Ø48.00 so it is round, straight and finished along its whole length

Notes
- A standard 6 in spool sent out to have its bore finished: Ø48.00 through the tube and both ferrules, so the free-piston mover's sleeve (Ø48.00) runs in it as a clearance seal with no contact. The finish and roundness are the machinist's to hold; the fit class says what the bore is for.
- Opening 47.5 to 48.00 leaves a 1.40 wall: at a 30 bar relief setting the hoop stress is p·D / 2t = 3.0 × 48 / 2.8 ≈ 51 MPa.
- The ferrule faces are untouched clamp faces. The Type B gasket's lip (Ø45.3) stands 1.95 into the bore at each end, so the mover never reaches the last 3 mm at either face (Mating features).
- On the thermoacoustic generators the alternator's coils and return shell clamp round this spool's tube: the magnets move inside, the coils stay outside, and no wire passes through the pressure wall.

Questions
Why 48.00?
It is the smallest round number that cleans up a 47.5 nominal sanitary bore along its whole length and leaves a usable wall.
What clearance does the piston get?
The drawing is exact: bore and sleeve are both Ø48.00. The running fit is the machinist's: the mover's sleeve is finished to give the clearance-seal gap the fit class asks for.
