V-rings (axial shaft seals, type VA and VS): shaft range, ring and mounting width, d2, profile height and width
What are the dimensions of a VA V-ring for a given shaft diameter, and how wide is it when installed? · Standard part · basis: Fridle's V-ring catalogue tables for VA (shaft 2.7 to 174 mm, 40 sizes) and the first six VS sizes, compared against Dichtomatik's V-ring catalogue for the first ten VA sizes; numbers only
Also called: v-ring dimensions, va v ring size chart, v-ring for 20 mm shaft, va0020 v-ring, v ring installed width b1, v-ring shaft diameter range, vs v-ring dimensions, v ring seal dimensions table, v-ring d2 d1, flinger seal size, v ring 25 mm shaft
Exact dimensions. Every file is drawn at true size with no tolerance added. The holes and pins that meet another part are listed below under Mating features, with the fit each joint needs; open those by your process's clearance before making the part. Mating features

Notes
- Columns follow Fridle's headings: code, shaft diameter d, d2 max and d2 min (given as d plus an offset), b1 mounting width (installed width of the ring, with tolerance), d1 ring diameter, W profile height, B profile width and b2. The catalogue does not define the letters in words, and the figure is not in the text, so no further meaning is read into them. 40 VA rows are tabulated (VA0003 to VA0170, shaft 2.7 to 174 mm); Fridle's VA table ends at VA0170; Dichtomatik's list continues to VA50-2000 (the larger sizes were not read).
- Cross-check with Dichtomatik (VA 50 NBR, metric; its part types VA50-3 to VA50-16): its columns use other letters (h1, H, d2, d1, H1), and for the first ten sizes the values are numerically the same as Fridle's: Dichtomatik h1 = Fridle b2, H = B, H1 = b1 (for example VA50-10: h1 3.4, H 5.5, H1 4.5 ± 0.6; Fridle VA0010: b2 3.4, B 5.5, b1 4.5 ± 0.6), and its d2 = shaft + 1 or + 2, d1 = shaft + 4, + 6 or + 9 equal Fridle's d2 max and d2 min. The shaft ranges differ at the top end of the bands: Dichtomatik prints 2.7 to 3.5, 3.5 to 4.5, 4.5 to 5.5, 5.5 to 6.5, 6.5 to 8, 8 to 9.5, 9.5 to 11.5, 11.5 to 12.5, 13.5 to 15.5, 15.5 to 17.5 against Fridle's narrower 2.7 to 3.4 ... 15.5 to 17.0 (last column); both are shown and the ring series is the same, so choose by the maker you buy from.
- VS (the wider-profile type) is tabulated only for its first six sizes (VS006 to VS014); VL and the sizes above VA0170 are not given: the VL table could not be read cleanly (one ring-diameter value was a misprint in the source) and larger sizes were not read. Fridle's page also prints a surface-roughness line (Rmax 10 to 16 µm, Rz 6.3 to 10 µm, Ra 1.6 to 3.2 µm) without saying which surface it applies to, speed figures of 8, 8 and 12 m/s that cannot be matched to types, a shaft misalignment limit of 1° and NBR / FPM temperature ranges (-40 to +100 °C and -20 to +180 °C); these are not used further.
- Rotary seal vs stackable V-ring: this page covers the axial shaft-mounted V-ring (a flinger). McMaster-Carr's V-ring page also lists PTFE and leather stackable V-ring packing seals (for valves, pumps and cylinders), which are a different product; they are not tabulated here.
- No file: the ring's section (body, lip, hinge) is not published as numbers beyond W, B and b1, so a model would be invented. McMaster-Carr sells shaft-mounted V-rings with per-part STEP; its page is linked, not copied.

Questions
Which VA V-ring fits a 20 mm shaft?
VA0020 (shaft 19.0 to 20.5 mm in Fridle's table): d2 max d+2, d2 min d+12, mounting width b1 6.0 ± 0.8 mm, d1 18.0, profile height W 4.0, profile width B 7.5, b2 4.7.
How wide is a V-ring installed on a 10 mm shaft?
VA0010 (shaft 9.5 to 11.0 mm) has mounting width b1 4.5 ± 0.6 mm; Dichtomatik's VA50-10 prints H1 4.5 ± 0.6 for the same ring.
What is the difference between VA and VS V-rings?
Both are in the table: at the same shaft size VS is the wider profile (for 9.5 to 11.0 mm, VS010 has b1 6.7 ± 0.6 and B 7.7 against VA0010 b1 4.5 ± 0.6 and B 5.5).
