DIN rail circuit breaker (MCB) dimensions, DIN 43880: 17.5 mm per pole, 18 mm module pitch, heights and depths by size
What are the dimensions of a DIN rail miniature circuit breaker (MCB): width per pole, height, depth and the DIN 43880 module sizes? · Standard part · basis: DIN 43880 figures as quoted by Phoenix Contact (the standard is paywalled), with ABB, Hager, Rittal, Schroff and Soyter data for real devices; numbers only
Also called: mcb dimensions, din rail breaker width, 17.5 mm module, circuit breaker 18 mm wide, din 43880 dimensions, consumer unit module width, mcb 1p height 80 mm, mcb depth 70 mm, reiheneinbaugeräte maße, teilungseinheit 17,5, din rail enclosure modules, mcb 3d model size, breaker panel cutout din rail
Exact dimensions. Every file is drawn at true size with no tolerance added. The holes and pins that meet another part are listed below under Mating features, with the fit each joint needs; open those by your process's clearance before making the part. Mating features

Notes
- DIN 43880 ('Reiheneinbaugeräte', built-in equipment) fixes the envelope that circuit breakers (MCBs), RCDs, switches, sockets and meters share on a 35 mm DIN rail: a module pitch of 18 mm with devices 17.5 mm wide (+0.5 / −0), so one-pole MCBs are one module, two-pole two, and so on. Distribution boards are specified in rows of modules ('4 × 12 TE' = four rows of 12). The standard text is paywalled; the figures below are what Phoenix Contact's housing guide quotes from it, plus maker data sheets.
- Heights and depths are given per installation size (1, 2, 3): h2 / h3 max 45 / 55 / 75 mm and t2 max 55 / 70 / 92.5 mm as Phoenix prints them. How those two tables map to a real breaker is not spelled out in the sources: ABB labels an S201 as 'DIN 43880 installation size 1' with a 69 mm depth, which is above the quoted size-1 depth, so the size labels evidently apply to the height and depth classes separately. Check the standard if you rely on a size.
- Real breaker sizes vary by maker: ABB S201 88 mm tall, Hager NBN 83 mm; both 17.5 mm per pole and 69 or 70 mm deep. Pole widths for 2, 3, 4 poles are n × 17.5 (35 / 52.5 / 70); Soyter's enclosure table lists 35, 52 and 70 mm, Schroff's 3 × 16 A module is 53.5 mm.
- DIN 43880 describes the envelope, not the DIN rail itself: the rail is TS35 × 7.5 or × 15 (IEC / EN 60715), on the DIN rail page. The 45 mm window and the front cut-out of a cover are not given as numbers in any source read, so no cut-out file is drawn.
- Not covered: breaker curves, poles' internal geometry, busbar combs, 63 A and DIN 43880 size-3 devices' real dimensions (only the standard's limits above).

Questions
How wide is a one-pole MCB?
17.5 mm (one module); the DIN 43880 module pitch is 18 mm. A 2-pole is 35 mm, 3-pole 52.5 mm and 4-pole 70 mm.
How tall and deep is a DIN rail breaker?
ABB S201: 88 × 69 mm; Hager NBN: 83 × 70 mm (height × depth). DIN 43880 limits the depth to 55 / 70 / 92.5 mm by size.
What rail do MCBs sit on?
A 35 mm top-hat rail, 7.5 mm (TH35-7.5) or 15 mm deep (TH35-15), IEC 60715.
Is a module 17.5 or 18 mm?
Both: the pitch is 18 mm, the device width is 17.5 mm (+0.5 / −0), so devices have a small gap.
